Legal office hours

As of Feb. 2, the 412th Test Wing Legal Office, located at 1 South Rosamond Blvd., has the following hours:

Power of Attorney, notary services: Tuesday and Thursday, 1-4 p.m., Wednesday and Friday, 8 a.m.-noon. However, real estate and refinance notary services are by appointment only.

Legal assistance, walk in: Tuesday and Thursday, 3-4 p.m., Wednesday and Friday, 10-11 a.m. Appointments can be made at other times upon request. For wills, if you want to execute a will, complete the will worksheet at https://aflegalassistance.law.af.mil. Bring the worksheet or the ticket number with you during walk-in hours. If you are unable to access the website, a paper worksheet may be completed at the legal office.

Deployment briefing: Call to make an appointment, or come in during our legal assistance hours. Briefings are also available at the Airman and Family Readiness Center. Deployers requiring immediate assistance need to call our main office line and arrangements will be made to assist you.

Tax Center now open

The Edwards Tax Center is now open and will be until April 9. The center is located at 1100 Kincheloe Ave. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. To schedule an appointment call (661) 275-ETAX or the Legal Office at (661) 277-4310. When you make an appointment you will be told what forms to bring. The Tax Center offers free tax preparation and services for active duty military, retirees, eligible dependents and reservists on active duty orders.

2014 Northern Trust Open

Birdies for the Brave, a military outreach initiative supported by the PGA Tour, the 2014 Northern Trust Open invites military members and their families to join them Feb. 12-16 as 144 of the worlds best professional golfers compete in this prestigious championship at the historic Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Complimentary tournament admission will be provided for all active duty and reserve military members, military retirees and their dependents, along with complimentary food and beverages in the Birdies for the Brave Patriots Outpost military hospitality chalet located on the 10th hole at Riviera.To receive complimentary admission, military guests must show a DOD-issued I.D. at the gate, along with a military ticket voucher. Military ticket vouchers are available by registering online at https://birdiesforthebrave.sheerid.com/NorthernTrustOpen/ and having each guests military status verified by Sheer I.D.; a military ticket can then be downloaded from the site. Military tickets are complimentary; however, a $1 verification fee per military ticket will apply.

Veterans can also acquire complimentary tickets by contacting the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System.

Open mic night

The First Four Airmen’s Council is holding an Open Mic Night at the Oasis
Center: Stripes Lounge 6-9 p.m., Feb. 28 for Black History Month.

This event is free of charge and is open to all military, civilians, contractors and dependents. Come out and enjoy various acts of amateur of spoken word, poetry, guitarists and vocalists!

2014 Senior Conference Mock Interviews

Desert High School’s Annual Senior Conference is scheduled for March 28.

Approximately 175 students from Desert and Boron High School are expected to participate. In past years, one of the sessions that students have appreciated the most is the mock job interview. Volunteers are needed to conduct 20-minute, 1-on-1 mock job interviews and evaluations. In the past we have had outstanding volunteers representing a wide diversity of occupational backgrounds and this year is expected to be even better. Full-day or half-day volunteers are preferred. All interview and evaluation materials will be provided. If you are willing and able to volunteer, contact William Gaddis at william.gaddis@us.af.mil or call (661) 277-3387 no later than Feb. 26 to receive a Volunteer Application.

Running with History

“Running with History,” Edwards AFB’s half marathon, 10K and 5K will take place May 17.Cost is$50 for the half; $35 for the 10K; and $25 for the 5K. All runs will take place on the historic Edwards AFB Lakebed and flight line.
