Veteran’s legal clinic

A free legal clinic will be held March 1 in Lancaster, Calif., for veterans seeking help with a variety of legal issues, including criminal record clearance, government benefits (including VA benefits), quality of life, traffic citations, child support and small claims. Participants can meet with attorneys to discuss a wide variety of legal issues. Appointments are strongly encouraged but not necessary. Those interested in expunging a criminal record should also call beforehand to help determine whether particular documents should be brought to the clinic. The event will be 1-4 p.m. at the Lancaster Library, 601 W. Lancaster Blvd., Calif., 93534.

Women’s Heritage Month

Volunteers are needed to read at the child development center, base library and Branch Elementary School for Women’s Heritage Month. These events are targeted for the first week of March during the morning.

Women’s Heritage Month activities

Activities scheduled as part of the Womenís Heritage Month observance include:
March 12: 5k fun run with a Women’s Heritage emphasis. POCs are Capt. Sarah Rapone (sarah.rapone.3@edwards.af.mil) and Capt. Matt Baber (matthew.baber@us.af.mil).

March 19: Working Women Linked In Lunch: Brown bag networking lunch at Oasis Community Center.

March 24: Women’s Heritage Month Luncheon at Club Murocc. Tickets will be available for purchase in March. POCs are Gay Bailey (gay.bailey@us.af.mil) and Monika Zuccaro (monika.zuccaro@us.af.mil).

Chapel Contracts open for bid

The following two Edwards AFB Chapel contracts are open for bid: Catholic Music Director and Protestant Traditional Accompanist. The winning bid will be based on “best value” to the government. Applicants must be willing to undergo and successfully complete a criminal background check as required by DOD Instruction 1402.5. Bid documents are available at Bldg.

6447, Edwards Chapel 2, 10 Chamberlin Drive, Room 17, 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. If you are interested, submit your resume and sealed bid to Tech. Sgt. Steven Eckles no later than 4 p.m., March 14. Late resumes and bids will not be accepted. Note: Include base year bid and four option year bids in the same sealed envelope. The renewal option allows bidders to include cost of living increases. Interviews and demonstration of skills are scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to noon March 18, or by appointment.†The public opening of bids is schedule for 4 p.m.. March 18.

Open mic night

The First Four Airmen’s Council is holding an Open Mic Night at the Oasis
Center: Stripes Lounge 6-9 p.m., Feb. 28 for Black History Month.

This event is free of charge and is open to all military, civilians, contractors and dependents. Come out and enjoy various acts of amateur of spoken word, poetry, guitarists and vocalists!

2014 Senior Conference Mock Interviews

Desert High School’s Annual Senior Conference is scheduled for March 28. Approximately 175 students from Desert and Boron High School are expected to participate. In past years, one of the sessions that students have appreciated the most is the mock job interview. Volunteers are needed to conduct 20-minute, 1-on-1 mock job interviews and evaluations. In the past we have had outstanding volunteers representing a wide diversity of occupational backgrounds and this year is expected to be even better. Full-day or half-day volunteers are preferred. All interview and evaluation materials will be provided. Running with History

“Running with History,” Edwards AFB’s half marathon, 10K and 5K will take
place May 17.†Cost is†$50 for the half; $35 for the 10K; and $25 for the 5K. All runs will take place on the historic Edwards AFB Lakebed and flight line.
