In memoriam

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David A. Peek, a retired longtime employee of the 412th Test Wing.†Peek was an Electrical Engineer in the 6510th Test Wing, 6520th Test Group and 412th Test Wing for many years, going back to the 1970s.†Peek was responsible for design and test of electrical systems of much of the Edwards infrastructure, including the Flight Test Mission Control Center (Ridley), Integration Facility for Avionics Systems Test, and many range telemetry systems, such as North DATS. Peek passed away March 22 at Palmdale Regional Hospital, Palmdale, Calif. He is survived by his wife, Judy, and his children, Heather, Kevin, Drew, and four wonderful grandchildren. A memorial service will be at Halley-Olsen Chapel, 44831 Date Ave., Lancaster, Calif., (661) 942-1139, at noon, April 5.†A reception gathering will follow immediately after also at Halley-Olsen.

Child abuse prevention

In recognition of April’s Child Abuse Prevention Month, a parent-child dance event called “Shake Your Bootie Not Your Baby” will be sponsored by The Family Advocacy Program at Arnold Park 3:30-5 p.m., April 4. Prizes will be awarded in several categories including “Most energetic dance duo,” “Best dance routine,” “Best dressed” and “Most family participation”.
In addition “McGruff” and “Scruff” will be in attendance. Child I.D. Kits will be distributed by Security Forces Squadron staff. Come and join us for this family friendly event.

Retirement

Col. Lawrence M. Hoffman, U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School commandant, requests your company at a retirement ceremony for David Austin, TPS scheduling technician. Austin will be retiring after 41 years of civilian service. The ceremony is 1 p.m., March 31 in the TPSí Scobee Auditorium with refreshments following in the Rick Husband Lounge. Uniform of the day for military and business casual for civilian attendees.

Retirement

Edward J. Sabo Jr., 412th Maintenance Group, is retiring after 39 years of faithful and honorable service. Team Edwards is invited to stop by the 412th Maintenance Operations Center in Bldg. 1600 at 2 p.m., March 28 for his retirement cake and to thank him for his 39 years of exceptional service to our country and to wish him well in his next endeavor.

WWII liberator search

On May 24, Temple Valley Beth Shalom in Encino, Calif., will host a special event to honor World War II concentration camp liberators and others who performed extraordinary feats in the line of duty. The California Department of Veterans Affairs is working to help find these individuals. †If you or someone you know was involved in liberating Holocaust survivors, contact Harvey Keenan at harveykeenen1@gmail.com.

Running with History

“Running with History,” Edwards AFB’s half marathon, 10K and 5K will take place May 17.†Cost is†$50 for the half; $35 for the 10K; and $25 for the 5K. All runs will take place on the historic Edwards AFB Lakebed and flight line.
