Military retirees, come on down May 3

Airman 1st Class Ryan Ruffner, 412th Aerospace Medicine Squadron, checks a retiree’s blood pressure during Edwards Air Force Base Military Retiree Appreciation Day last year, May 4, 2013, at the Oasis Community Center.

Edwards AFB will hold its 2014 Military Retiree Appreciation Day May 3.

The event will be held at the Oasis Community Center in Bldg. 2500 at 205 West Popson Ave., Edwards AFB, Calif., 93524.

Retiree Appreciation Day will be from 8 a.m. to noon. All military retirees and their spouses, along with surviving spouses, are invited to attend.

“We’re going to have different organizations on base come such as the pharmacy and the legal office, which will have some breakout sessions so retirees can have one-on-one time talking to the experts who are up to date with the policies,” said Capt. Donald Johnson, 31st Test and Evaluation Squadron and 2014 RAD volunteer. “We’ll also have some CAC and DEERS office people come, along with TRICARE, so there’s a host of things for retirees to learn about.”

Staff from the Edwards Retirees Activities Office, the Immunizations clinic and USAA will also be on hand for services and information updates.

Invitations will be mailed out to local retirees. Those who receive the invites will need to RSVP as soon as possible in order for base personnel to prepare for the space and to make sure it’s a good event, according to Johnson.

“We owe it to our retiree members. There is just so much going on as far information; a lot of things that can affect their benefits such as TRICARE and their pension. We want to make sure they are up to date and they have the latest information and that they are taken care of because they took care of us when they were in the service.”

Refreshments, donuts, gift bags and door prizes will also be provided to make Retiree Appreciation Day 2014 both fun and informational.
