Right: Staff Sgt. Cameron Cochran (dark shirt), 387th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron assistant flight chief, demonstrates one way to push away an attacker during a self-defense class July 26 at an undisclosed location in Southwest Asia. The class was designed to better prepare Airmen if they are ever attacked. Cochran deployed from Edwards AFB where he is assigned to the 412th Security Forces Squadron.†Cochran and another†instructor†taught 18†Airmen a†variety of defensive techniques to show participants how to get out of harm’s way beginning with a fighting stance. They then taught knee strikes and different kicking techniques. The techniques Cochran provided are based on leverage and the element of surprise, not strength; so even the smallest person is able to fight off an attacker.
