Women’s Equality Day 5K run/walk Aug. 26

womens-equality
Here’s a Women’s Equality fact: Did you know, 51 years ago, President John F. Kennedy signed the Equal Pay Act into law to combat gender-based wage discrimination? Also, did you know, at that time, the U.S. workforce included nearly 25 million women, which was 1/3†of all U.S. workers? Yet, women earned an average of 59 cents†to the dollar compared to their male colleagues.

On Aug. 26, the 412th Test Wing and NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center will host†a 5K run/walk in celebration†of Women’s Equality Day. The run/walk will begin†at the Rosburg Fitness Center at†7:30 a.m.

Prior to the start,†a reading of the Presidential Proclamation for Women’s Equality Day will take place. Come out and join†Team Edwards on this important day in American History.

For more information, contact Master Sgt. Stephanie Brown at 661-277-3087, email stephanie.brown.29@us.af.mil, or Patricia Martinez at 661-275-4000,†email patricia.martinez.5@us.af.mil.

Women’s Equality Day†is celebrated every Aug. 26 to honor the certification of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote.
