Congressman Steve Knight speaks at AFSA event

Congressman Steve Knight (center) poses for a photo with attendees of an Air Force Sergeants Association meeting Oct. 30 at the Airmen and Family Readiness Center. Knight spoke about the legislative processes that happen in Congress and how lobby groups such as AFSA always need to be communicating their concerns with lawmakers and politicians to ensure their voices are heard.

U.S. Congressman Steve Knight visited Edwards AFB to speak at the Airmen and Family Readiness Center Oct. 30. The visit was sponsored by the local AFSA Chapter 1328.

The event was open to all Airmen so that they could ask Knight quality-of-life questions concerning Airmen.

He answered questions on a variety of issues from implementing a military cost of living allowance (COLA) at Edwards to boosting job creation both on Edwards AFB and the surrounding area.

Additionally, he went into great detail on the importance of voicing “our” concerns with his office and other elected officials.  This gives him and his staff the ability to address these important issues.

Staff Sgt. Michael Burd, Air Force Sergeants Association Chapter 1328 president, presents U.S. Congressman Steve Knight with an AFSA Chapter 1328 patch, thanking him for coming and speaking at their sponsored event Oct. 30 at the Airmen and Family Readiness Center.

AFSA is a professional military organization and their primary purpose is to provide benefits and services for enlisted folks by lobbying and sharing with Congress the needs of the enlisted.

The group says it works with leaders in Washington, D.C., and in the Air Force to enhance and maintain the interests of all Airmen. At Edwards Air Force Base, the local chapter works with local leaders to solve issues that directly affect Airmen as well as recognize them for their many accomplishments.
