TPS softball team a hit at air show kickoff

LANCASTER, Calif.–Students and staff from the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School at Edwards Air Force Base stepped up to the plate March 18 to help welcome the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels to the Antelope Valley.

The Navy’s Flight Demonstration Squadron was in town ahead of the 2016 L.A. County Air Show where they served as the main attraction during the two-day weekend event.

Air show organizers invited the TPS team to play the Blue Angels team in a friendly three-inning softball game at The Hangar in Lancaster, which is home to the Lancaster JetHawks minor league baseball team.

The game was the first event to an air show kickoff evening at the stadium that also featured Hawaiian dancers, local food vendors and music. 
The TPS team jumped on the Blue Angels early with multiple runs in the first inning and went on their way to defeating the Navy team 9-0.

During the game, both TPS players and Blue Angels tossed signed softballs into the stands for the fans.

Immediately following the game, air show participants, including the Blue Angels team and pilots, stood around the pitcher’s mound and were introduced to the crowd. 

The L.A. County Air Show was held at General William J. Fox Field March 19-20.
