Debt Collection Notice

2nd Lt. Alex Bayer is the summary court officer for the deceased Soldier, Spc. Jonathan S. Thomas, formerly of Company C., 40th Expeditionary Signal Battalion, 11th Theatre Tactical Signal Brigade.

This is a debt collection notice for Spc. Jonathan S. Thomas. All services under Thomas’s name should be put on hold. All those with debts to be collected under the name of Thomas or for information regarding collection, call Bayer, 520.533.5886.

Learn about babies, bonding

Sierra Vista Regional Health Center invites the public to attend a free presentation on Tuesday, 1 – 3 p.m. in the Sierra Vista Public Library’s Mona Bishop Room. Debra Kaplan, a therapist from Tucson, will explore the various styles of early attachment between parents and babies. Emphasis will be on the skills for building emotional resiliency in children’s lives.

Expectant mothers, families and babies are welcome. Health care professionals will receive 1½ hours of free continuing education.

Preregistration or RSVPs are not required.

Air show at DM this weekend

Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Tucson, will hold the 2012 ‘Thunder and Lightning over Arizona’ open house, Saturday and Sunday.

This year, the base celebrates aviation history, airpower and 100 years of Arizona Statehood. Several military air demonstration teams including the Air Force’s premier demo team, the Thunderbirds, the U.S. Air Force Academy jump team and more are slated to perform.

Security measures will be in place and security forces have the right to search and turn away those with large bags, camelbacks, umbrellas, canopies, chairs or weapons of any kind. Service animals are permitted, but other animals are not.

One plastic water bottle per person is permitted.

General public members may enter the base starting at 8:30 a.m. through the Swan and Craycroft Gates and are encouraged to car pool. Handicap parking is only accessible through the Craycroft Gate.

Those with base IDs and base access passes may enter through the Wilmot Gate and enter the event area at the Plane-on-a-Stick, at the corner of First Street and Yuma; however parking near this entrance is reserved for open house players.

Anyone with a military ID may park at the 355th Medical Group or the Mirage Club and ride free shuttles to the event entrance beginning at 10:30 a.m.

 

Register for Trackday

Fort Huachuca & DMAFB Motorcycle Mentorship programs and XCEL Trackdays present A Tax-Day Trackday, Sunday, 6 .am. – 6 p.m. at Inde Motorsports Ranch, Willcox.

A sportbike is not required. Run whatever you ride. Full-day registration is $145; half-day is $90 and includes rental leathers, if needed.

Expert instructional staff and control riders will be on hand to provide on- and off- track coaching.

Job-seeker workshops offered

The public and veterans, disabled veterans, spouses and dependents, is invited to attend free, Arizona job-connection employment workshops at Cochise County Workforce Development, 1843 Paseo San Luis, Sierra Vista. Topics are “Creating an Effective Resume” and “Understanding the Interview Process.”

The dual workshops will be offered Tuesday, 9 a.m. – noon. Bring pen, pencils and notepads.

‘Living Green’ seminar slated

The Housing Services Office will host a “Living Green” home-buying seminar Tuesday, 6 p.m. in Building 52065, Smith Avenue. The seminar will be conducted by real estate professionals familiar with building and selling “green homes” in Arizona.

This seminar is open to active duty servicemembers, current Department of Defense employees and their spouses. Seating is limited.

Days of Remembrance set

This year’s Days of Remembrance Observance will be held at Fitch Auditorium on April 19, at 10:30 a.m. The theme is “Choosing to Act: Stories of Rescue.” One or more Holocaust survivors will speak about their experience during World War II.

 

Installation Retirement Ceremony set

Fort Huachuca and partners will conduct the next quarterly Installation Retirement Ceremony April 20, 4 – 5 p.m. on Brown Parade Field to publicly recognize and thank Soldiers, civilian retirees and family members for their service to Fort Huachuca, the U. S. military and the Nation.

The public is invited.

Motorists should expect disruptions to the flow of traffic in the area during this event.

 

Post-wide yard sale slated

Fort Huachuca will hold its annual post-wide yard sale April 28, 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. so those living in military housing can get rid of unwanted items.

Motorists should expect heavy vehicle and foot traffic in the housing areas and should drive cautiously at or below the 15-mph speed limit.

 

Cleanup, fire prevention operation planned

The U.S. Army Garrison and partner organizations will conduct an installation-wide spring cleanup and fire prevention operation April 23 – May 4 to clean-up and properly dispose of trash, debris and discarded combustible materials throughout the installation cantonment and training areas and to mitigate wildland fire threat.

Units post-wide should plan to participate.

Motorists should drive carefully when passing groups cleaning up around the roadways.

 

Cooling equipment changeover announced

The Directorate of Public Works has scheduled the changeover to cooling equipment to take place April 30 – May 18, weather permitting. Any facility not completed by the end-date should call the contractor’s work control section, 533.5457 or 533.5459.

Callbacks for coolers that have been turned on should be referred to work control until May 25. After this, service orders should be placed with the DPW service order desk, 533.3151/2003.

In most facilities, this changeover requires the heater to be disconnected before the cooling unit can be activated. Occupants awaiting changeover should open windows on hot days.

 

Safe Summer briefing set

Personnel from the Army Substance Abuse Program will conduct the annual Safe Summer briefing, May 8 – 10 at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. in Murr Community Center to help Fort Huachuca units and organizations meet requirements outlined in AR 600-85 and enhance Soldier, family member and civilians’ safety awareness during the statistically more dangerous time of the year. This training is mandatory for military and civilian personnel.
