Enjoy Festival of Southwest this weekend

The 2012 Festival of the Southwest will be held Friday, 4 – 11 p.m., Saturday, noon – 11 p.m. and Sunday, noon – 5 p.m. at Veterans’ Memorial Park, Sierra Vista.

Many attractions will be offered for the entire family including the City of Fun Carnival, with rides for all ages.

The Festival will also offer free live entertainment. Tomorrow from 7 – 11 p.m., “Static,” will perform a blend of music, specializing in dance, R&B, Hip Hop, Ol’ Skool Funk and today’s current hits

Saturday, 6 – 10 p.m., Abbey Road — A tribute to the Beatles — will recreate the magic, music, wit and charm of the Fab Four, including their personalities and costumes. Break out the hip huggers and tie-dye for Beatlemania Day with a 60s costume contest, Beatles karaoke from 4-6 p.m., and Abbey Road t-shirts for sale.

Sunday, noon – 3 p.m. is Family Day at the festival, with free activities planned for the entire family, including Barney’s Backyard Barnyard Petting Zoo. Then, from 3 – 5 p.m., country duo “Partners” will close the festival.

Another popular festival event, the 5 kilometer Mutt March, will be held Saturday starting at 7:30 a.m. Bring your pet and participate in this event.

Cost is $10 for pet and human. Refreshments and a t-shirt will be included, while they last. Sign up at the southwest side of Veterans’ Memorial Park.

April’s RAN features ‘bike night’

Get ready for “bike night” at the next Right Arm Night, starting at 4 p.m. April 27 outside at the pavilion at Thunder Mountain Activity Centre. A live band will provide music, there will be bike contests with prizes, and sponsors will provide giveaways. Free finger foods and a pay-as-you-go bar will be available.

RAN is free and open to everyone, including Soldiers, civilians, retirees and family members 18 and older.

Don’t miss ‘I Take This Man,’ live at Murr

FMWR, along with the Illegitimate Theater Company of Sierra Vista, will present “I Take This Man,” a comedy in three acts, live on stage at Murr Community Center.

Evening performances are set for April 27 and 28, and May 4 and 5 at 7 p.m. Sunday matinees will be presented April 29 and May 6 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased in advance at Murr or at the door.

Free movie will be shown April 28

FMWR will present a free Moonlight Movie, “Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol,” April 28 at Warrior/Sentinel Field. Gates will open at 7 p.m., and the movie will start at dusk.

Free popcorn, hot dogs, water and soft drinks will be provided while supplies last. In case of inclement weather, the movie will be shown at Eifler Fitness Center.

Coaches’ meeting set for midnight softball

The coaches’ meeting for the 2012 Midnight Madness Softball Tournament will be held April 26, 10 a.m. at Barnes Field House.

The entry deadline is April 30. The tournament will be played May 4 beginning at 7 p.m. at Warrior and Sentinel Fields and continue all night until completed.

Register for indoor triathlon

Sports, Fitness and Aquatics will host the “1st Time Tri” Indoor triathlon May 19 beginning at 8 a.m. at Barnes Field House. The triathlon is open to all levels and will consist of swim in the indoor pool, spin bike and run on the track.

Entrants can register at BFH or Eifler Fitness Center. Entry deadline is May 15. Race day registrations will not be accepted.
