Sierra Vista Farmers Market to celebrate Earth Day

SolarCooking

The Sierra Vista Farmers Market will hold its annual Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the northwest corner of Carmichael and Wilcox Streets in Sierra Vista. This event, now in its seventh year, offers family oriented displays and entertainment, featuring most of the vendors who can be found every week at the farmers market, along with live music, educational exhibits, farm animals and more.

Bring a cooler and shop for locally raised meats and eggs, baked goods, salsas, jams, honeys, natural body care products, trees, seeds and starter plants for gardens and crafts.

Check out the solar cooking demonstration and see how foods can be prepared using only the sun. Learn about solar power, solar water heating, water harvesting and conservation.

Besides the nature-based educational booths, such as hiking, birding and gardening, there will be farm animals and exhibits featuring alpacas and goats.

Smokey Bear will make an appearance, and community members can visit the Bureau of Land Management Firewise trailer to learn how to make their homes more fire-resistant. Arizona Greyhounds will have information about adopting former racing greyhounds, and there will be several organizations offering blood pressure checks and other types of health information.

A full day of musical performances is scheduled. Don’t miss performances by the strings-only Cochise County Youth Orchestra, as well as six other musical acts.

Choose from a variety of lunch menu items including barbecued ribs, sandwiches, salads, hamburgers, hot dogs, chile rellenos, fajitas and more. Dine under the shade canopies while enjoying live entertainment.
