Fourteen bid the military ‘goodbye’

Fourteen Soldiers, with a total of 309 years of military service, bade the Army “goodbye” Friday on Brown Parade Field during Fort Huachuca’s Quarterly Installation Retirement Ceremony, which also recognized the retiree families’ service with a presentation of flowers.

Colonel John Szypko, commander, Human Intelligence Training-Joint Center of Excellence, spoke, thanking the men for their many years of service.

His speech reflected the message printed in the event’s program, “Fort Huachuca extends a heartfelt thank you and sincere congratulations to the retirees and their families.

“We wish you health, happiness and success in your future endeavors.”

Chief Warrant Officer 4 John Parker Jr. retired after 23 years of service to the United States Army. His last assignment was as deputy for training for Human Intelligence Training – Joint Center of Excellence.

Parker and his wife Christine have two children, Jessica and Nicholas. The family will reside in Sierra Vista.

1st Sgt. Damiso Lamb had 20 years of Army service when he said “goodbye” to the military. His final assignment was as 1st Sgt., Company C, 2nd Battalion, 13th Aviation Regiment, 1st Aviation Brigade, Fort Huachuca.

Lamb also plans to reside in Sierra Vista.

1st Sgt. James Serna retired from the Army after 28 years of service and final assignment as senior network operations for the 40th Expeditionary Signal Battalion, 11th Theater Tactical Signal Brigade.

Serna and his wife Hannah have three children, Christopher, Rachelle and Hannah-Lauren. They will call Sierra Vista “home.”

Master Sgt. Paul Harris retired after 20 years of Army service. His last assignment was as the operations noncommissioned officer for the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security, U.S. Army Garrison, Fort Huachuca.

Harris and his wife Julie have one son, Sam. They plan to move and will settle in Huntsville, Ala.

Sgt. 1st Class Pamela Batiste has spent 21 years in Army service and left the military after her final assignment as the battalion operations sergeant, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 363rd Regiment (Training Support), Mesa.

Batiste and her fiancé George plan to move to Detroit.

Sgt. 1st Class Frederick Dalton retired after 24 years of Army service. His final assignment was as the S3 Training/Schools noncommissioned officer for the 40th EBS, 11th TTSB.

Dalton and his wife Debra have one son, Justin Curry. They plan to remain in Sierra Vista.

Sgt. First Class Peter Eliason left the Army after serving for 22 years. His last assignment was as an operations sergeant for the Intelligence Analyst Committee, Company E, 305th Military Intelligence Battalion, 111th Military Intelligence Brigade.

Eliason and his wife Jennifer have three children, Seamus, Ethan and Grace. They will live in Sierra Vista.

Sgt. 1st Class Patrick Flynn left the Army after 23 years of service. He was last assigned as a Warrior-Alpha, Unmanned Aerial System standardization instructor/operator, Company C, 2nd Battalion, 13th Avn. Regt., 1st Avn. Bde.

Flynn and his wife Heather have one daughter, Amaya. They will live in Vail.

Sgt. 1st Class William King retired after 26 years of Army service. His final assignment was as a music performance team leader and sound reinforcement noncommissioned officer in charge, 62nd Army Band.

King and his wife Annette have two children, Alex and Natalie. They will remain in Sierra Vista.

Sgt. 1st Class Alexis Murillas has 20 years of service to the United States Army. He was last assigned as an operations noncommissioned officer for Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 11th Tactical Theater Signal Brigade.

Murillas and his wife Irene have two children, Nicholas and Justin. They plan to reside in Sierra Vista.

Sgt. 1st Class Jermaine Taylor left the Army after 20 years of service. His final assignment was as the Joint Integration Office, United States Army Garrison noncommissioned officer in charge, Joint Base Lewis/McChord, Wash.

Taylor and his wife Norma have three children Jacques, Jermaine Jr. and Ebony. They will live in Goodyear.

Staff Sgt. Randy Catano left the Army after 22 years of service. His last assignment in the Army was as the automation data processing security noncommissioned officer, Company B, 40th ESB, 11th TTSB. Additionally, he served as the Headquarters platoon sergeant, Plans and Operations NCO, and the Orderly Room noncommissioned officer in charge.

Catano and his wife Bridget plan to reside in San Angelo, Texas.

Staff Sgt. William Glass retired from the Army after 20 years of service. to the United States Army. His final assignment was as a senior power generator repairer for HHC, 40th ESB, 11th TTSB.

Glass and his wife Destiny have three children, Gavin, Brayleigh and Logan. They plan to move to Texas.

Staff Sergeant Matthew Longnaker has 20 years of service to the United States Army, leaving the service after his assignment as an operations and schools noncommissioned officer, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, U.S. Army Medical Department Activity, Bavaria, Rose Barracks, Germany.

Longnaker has one child, Abigail, and plans to reside in Perris, Calif.
