Help the Sierra Vista Public Library celebrate Arizona’s 100th birthday by signing up for the Summer Reading Program. The library’s annual Summer Reading Program, for children entering 1st through 12th grades this fall, will be held throughout the months of June and July. This year’s theme is “Our State, Our Story: Celebrating 100 Years of Arizona.â€
The library wants to encourage children and teens to continue reading throughout the summer. Participants in the Summer Reading Program can choose what they read based on their interests. The library has hundreds of books, graphic novels, comic books, magazines and audiobooks youth can check out and use toward reaching their summer reading goals.
To participate in the program, sign up at the library between May 22 – June 28. Keep track of what you read this summer in the provided reading log, then stop by the library to claim your prizes. Children and teens will be awarded four prizes; including a one-time pass to swim at the Cove, a journal to tell their own story, and a new book. Details about the prizes and when they will be available at the library can be found in the reading log, which is given to all registered participants.
As part of the Summer Reading Program, the library will have performers every Thursday at 10 a.m. from June 7 – July 12 in the Mona Bishop Meeting Room at the library. Performers will include Mad Science from the University of Arizona; reptiles from the Gray Hawk Nature Center; storyteller Glenda Bonin; local teen authors Kesmine and Wilson Hickman; the Sierra Vista firefighters and a surprise visit from a local favorite. All Summer Reading Program participants will be eligible for door prizes at Thursday performances.
Children do not have to attend the Thursday performances to participate in the Summer Reading Program, and can still earn prizes by reading throughout the summer. For more information, contact the library at 458.4225 or www.sierravistaaz.gov/svlibrary.
