Cross-country race Saturday
The fifth annual Army Aviation Association of America Black Tower 5k Cross-Country Race and two-mile fun run will take place Saturday at the Unmanned Aircraft Training System Training Center. In addition to the event, there will be displays and refreshments. Registration begins at 7 a.m., the run starts at 8 a.m., and the fun walk starts at 8:15 a.m. Registration costs $8.

Farm tour takes place Sunday
Tour Dad’s Farm, a local working farm on Sunday, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Learn viable food production methods, get gardening tips, observe spring and summer crops or the fruit and nut orchard, or learn about mulching and watering systems. Children might enjoy the petting zoo, a horse-drawn wagon and opportunities to experiment with planting seeds. The tour also includes a sustainable agriculture fair with informational booths and local farmers, ranchers and value-added producers.
Dad’s Farm is located at 30 W. Ivey Rd., Whetstone, one mile north of Mustang Corners on Hwy 90.

Police group to sponsor golf tournament
The Fraternal Order of Police Huachuca Lodge 28 is sponsoring a golf tournament Saturday at the Turquoise Valley Golf Course in Naco. Format is an 18-hole, four-person scramble with no handicaps. Cost is $60.00 per player, which includes golf cart, green fees and a Mexican style, buffet lunch at the clubhouse. Turquoise Valley members will be $50, and Turquoise Valley members using their own cart are $40. Mulligans are available for an extra fee.

Historical society to hold annual luncheon
The Sierra Vista Historical Society will hold its Annual Membership Luncheon May 18 at Pueblo Del Sol Country Club, St. Andrew’s Drive. Doors open at 11 a.m., the business meeting takes place at 11:30 a.m., and a buffet lunch begins at noon. The speaker is Ken Bennett, Arizona’s secretary of state. Luncheon cost is $15, and reservations are required.

Seniors group to hear jazz blues
Happy Achers will feature Becky Reyes and the blues-harp artistry of her husband Scott Muhleman, May 17, at 11:10 a.m.

Observe hummingbird banding
Join other observers at the hummingbird banding sessions on Fort Huachuca May 20 at the Public Affairs Office, at the west end of Brown Parade Field. Banding is scheduled for one-half-hour after sunrise until approximately 10 a.m. Families are invited, and admission is free.

Learn about area pioneers
The Friends of the Huachuca Mountains and Carr House’s Sunday afternoon presentation will showcase a pioneer family of Fairbank Historic Townsite. Eddie Figueroa will share his family history in stories and pictures. In addition to talking about how the residents of Fairbank lived, he will include stories about the railroad, the saloons and the San Pedro River. The presentation takes place May 20, 1:30 p.m. at the Carr House, Carr Canyon Road.

Observe the night sky
The Huachuca Astronomy Club and the Patterson Observatory invite the community to their monthly Public Astronomy Night, May 24, 6:30 p.m., weather permitting. Using the Patterson Observatory’s 20-inch telescope, people will be able to view double stars, open and globular star clusters, nebulae, galaxies and Jupiter and its largest moons. Admission is free.
The Patterson Observatory is located at the University of Arizona South, 1140 Colombo Dr., Sierra Vista.

Wyatt Earp Days coming
Tombstone’s 31st Annual Wyatt Earp Day’s celebration is scheduled for May 26 – May 28, on Historic Allen Street.
The event, sponsored by the Tombstone Lion’s Club, will feature three full days of entertainment from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. each day, including a gunfighting skit competition and a historic costume competition.
The Wyatt Earp Days Chili Cook-Off will take place on May 27 between 4th and 3rd Streets at 1 p.m. with cup sales starting at 1 p.m.

Watch birds at EOP
Join an approximately 3-hour public bird watching tour, led by docents of several bird watching organizations, at the Environmental Operations Park every Sunday. Tours are limited to 22 people on a first-come, first-served basis.
Tours leave from State Route 90 between Mile Marker 324 and 325, Sierra Vista, at 8 a.m. Admission is free, but donations are accepted.
