Increased fire danger leads to fire restrictions

In conjunction with the Coronado National Forest, Sierra Vista District, the Fort Huachuca fire danger level is now “Very High”. No open fires and no smoking outside vehicles are permitted in all Fort Huachuca canyons and mountains. All smoking materials must be extinguished in vehicle ashtrays.

Do not park vehicles in grassy areas due to catalytic converters.

The use, sale or possession of fireworks on the installation is prohibited.

Use exceptional care to avoid starting brush, grass or forest fires while in the field, and use and extinguish smoking materials correctly.

Fire breaks will be a minimum of three feet around tents, vans, power units, parking and other similar areas before being occupied. Appropriate extinguishing equipment must be readily available.

Women veterans license plate available

The new Arizona women veterans special license plate is now available to those wishing to purchase on online at servicearizona.com. It is also available at all Arizona Department of Motor Vehicle offices.

The new plate was created last session by the Arizona Legislature in House Bill 2656.

Get “Wired” at MI Library

DOL Supply Division closure

The Directorate of Logistics Supply Division will conduct an annual location survey and wall-to-wall inventory, during which time the facilities will be closed.

JITC to hold RoC, retirement ceremony

The Joint Interoperability Test Command will conduct their relinquishment of command and retirement ceremony for Col. Joseph Puett, outgoing JITC commander, May 24, 3 – 4 p.m. in front of JITC headquarters, Building 57305. Puett will relinquish command to George Brock, who will serve as the interim commander.

Female military veterans to meet

The Arizona Department of Veteran Services will host its Fourth Annual Arizona Military Women’s Conference on June 16, at the El Zaribah Shrine Auditorium, 552 N. 40th Street, Phoenix 85008. This event is free and is open to the first 300 women who have served or are currently serving in the armed forces. The conference will also be telecast to Tucson’s Scottish Rite Cathedral at 160 S. Scott Avenue, Tucson, and is open to the first 100 women there.

The sessions offered during the conference apply to military women and veterans of all ages, ranging from VA benefits, military women moving forward, and how to identify and seek assistance for post traumatic stress.

The keynote speaker will be Maj. Gen. Jennifer Napper, commanding general, Network Enterprise Technology Command. Napper has been called “ a Soldier’s leader” and will provide her experience and insight on military women moving forward.

Cavalry Heritage Day planned

B Troop will host the Fort Huachuca Cavalry Heritage Day, May 26, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Fort Huachuca’s Wren Arena. This free event, open to the community, will showcase military ceremonial and cavalry maneuver riding.

AFAP Steering Committee to meet 

The U.S. Army Garrison will host a quarterly Army Family Action Plan Steering Committee meeting on May 30, 9 – 10 a.m. at Army Community Service, Building 50010, to provide AFAP program updates and review the current status of installation active AFAP issues.

Memorial Day to be observed

A Memorial Day Observance will be held at the Old Post Cemetery, May 28, 11:30 – 12:15 to honor our fallen service men and women who have given their lives for our country and our freedom. The ceremony includes an invocation, guest speaker and wreath laying. The public is invited.

Motorists in the Bonnie Blink Housing Area should expect disruptions to traffic, and traffic control points will be established at Andrews and Burt Road.

Due to limited parking, drivers should park in the designated parking areas on Christy Avenue and take the shuttle buses to the ceremony.

The Raymond W. Bliss Army Health Center Refill Pharmacy located at the Post Exchange can be reached by phone at 533.1551. The number published in the Fort Huachuca telephone directory is incorrect.

Get babies’ health checkups

The Raymond W. Bliss Army Health Center offers well-child visits, an important part of preventive healthcare for children. The first recommended checkup starts at 3 – 5 days after birth, followed by visits at 2 – 4 weeks, 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18 months and 2 years of age. Well women walk-in day

Raymond W. Bliss Army Health Center offers a Well Women Walk-In Clinic for patients assigned to RWBAHC on the first Tuesday of every month, 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. in Clinic A. No appointment is needed.

The clinic helps schedule mammograms, colon or cervical cancer screenings, diabetic lab checks, asthma control, annual lab tests, referrals, consults and more.

309th MI Bn. commanders change

The 309th Military Intelligence Battalion will conduct a Change of Command Ceremony between Lt. Col. Robert Schulte (outgoing) and Lt. Col. Laura Knapp (incoming) on June 7, 7 a.m. on Chaffee Parade Field. The public is invited.

Motorists should expect disruptions in the flow of traffic around Chaffee Parade Field on the morning of the event and a few days beforehand during rehearsals and plan accordingly. Some traffic will be rerouted. Use of the Main Gate is recommended for those not involved with or attending the ceremony.

304th MI Bn. to gain new commander

The 309th Military Intelligence Battalion will conduct a Change of Command Ceremony between Lt. Col. Allen Shreffler and Lt. Col. Jaren Price on June 12, 9:30 a.m. on Brown Parade Field. The public is invited.
