RWBAHC now offering TRICARE Plus program

Raymond W. Bliss Army Health Center is now accepting enrollees for TRICARE Plus, a program for TRICARE beneficiaries 65 and over that is operated at the discretion of the military treatment facility commander.

This program will allow enrollees to be seen at the health center for primary care appointments, and they will receive the same access to care standards as TRICARE Prime enrollees. TRICARE Plus is not a health plan; it is simply a way to access primary care at military treatment facilities. Retirees and retiree family members using TRICARE for Life may apply, and once enrolled, will be assigned a primary care manager at RWBAHC.

Col. William Moran, commander, RWBAHC describes why TRICARE Plus is being offered and the program’s benefits.

“RWBAHC is pleased to announce that we have opened enrollment, for eligible beneficiaries, into the TRICARE Plus Program. The program will allow our deserving Fort Huachuca beneficiaries the opportunity to take advantage of the same safe, patient-centered care our staff delivers every day to our Soldiers, family members and retirees.”

TRICARE Plus offers people the convenience of seeing their primary care physician and picking up prescriptions during the same visit. Enrollees will be able to select a “B” ticket at the RWBAHC Pharmacy kiosk, allowing for much shorter wait times, compared to non-enrollees.

Kathy Long, Clinical Support Division chief at RWBAHC describes why TRICARE Plus is beneficial to retirees and their families.

“[TRICARE-Plus allows them [patients] to stay within the military healthcare system. In some cases it allows them to continue seeing the provider they have been seeing. They can have their appointment and get their labs, x-rays and medications all in one spot. We have plenty of appointments available, and we welcome this population back to RWBAHC.”

There are several preventive health screening requirements that patients must comply with while enrolled in TRICARE Plus, including mammograms, cervical screenings, colorectal exams and diabetes testing.

Pharmacy, lab, front desk and the patient advocate have TRICARE Plus policy literature on hand. To apply, return completed paperwork to Lyria Wise, beneficiary counseling and assistance officer located in the same hall as the TRICARE Service Center.
