Two hundred and thirty-seven years ago, the United States Army was established to defend our fledgling Nation and secure our independence. Since then, our Soldiers have valiantly fought at home and abroad, renewing the indomitable spirit of America’s Army, as it safeguards freedom for both our great Nation and that of our friends and allies. This 237th birthday commemorates America’s Army — Soldiers, families, civilians and veterans — who are achieving a level of excellence that is truly Army Strong. We also celebrate our local communities for their steadfast support of our Soldiers and families. We are “America’s Army: The Strength of the Nation.â€
Throughout our Nation’s history, the Army’s mission has remained constant, only expanding to provide the same blanket of protection and dedication to peace for others that our Nation has persistently pursued in the struggle to secure freedom.
From Bunker Hill to Baghdad, from the forts of Verdun to the valleys of Afghanistan, from Vietnam to the global struggle against violent extremism – our Army has rededicated itself time and time again to the preservation of peace and stability so that our future generations may prosper out of the shadows of tyranny, in peace and tranquility.
Today we continue our legacy of prevailing defense by producing the most disciplined, competent, and dedicated force on Earth. It is this distinctive commitment we proudly bare to the world that unites us as Soldiers and Americans.
As we look to the future and the challenges of dynamic international security it encompasses, we know without a doubt America’s Army will continue to confront each threat with the same unsurpassed courage, selflessness and duty that has characterized our history for the last 237 years.
This June 14 I encourage you to join us as we celebrate the Army’s birthday at the Sierra Vista Public Library with food and refreshments following a special story time for children from 2 – 3 in the afternoon. Don’t forget to join us June 15 at 5:30 a.m. as well, as we pay tribute to 237 years of distinguished service to our Nation and the world with a Run/Walk Celebration at Sentinel Field. Help us celebrate the generations of Soldiers who embraced the calling to support and defend this great Nation with honor, loyalty and unparalleled bravery in peace and at war for more than two centuries.
I want to thank each of you — Soldiers, civilians, families and veterans who have sacrificed and persevered throughout our history to make our Army strong and the strength of the Nation. Happy Birthday!
God Bless America’s Army!
Always Out Front!
