Col. Angelia Farnell, 111th Military Intelligence Brigade commander, passes the 304th MI Battalion colors to incoming commander Lt. Col. Jaren Price during the change of command ceremony Tuesday on Brown Parade Field.

On Tuesday, Brown Parade Field on Historic “Old Post” was the site where an audience and members of the 304th Military Intelligence Battalion bid farewell to commander, Col. Allen Shreffler and welcomed new commander, Lt. Col. Jaren Price.

Prior to the official ceremony the spouses of the outgoing and incoming commanders were presented with yellow roses in recognition of their support of the Army mission.

In keeping with Army tradition, Shreffler passed the 304th’s colors to reviewing officer, Col. Angelia Farnell, 111th MI Brigade commander, officially relinquishing command and responsibility; she then passed the colors to Price, who formally assumed command of the 304th.

During his remarks, Farnell praised Shreffler for his leadership of the 304th MI Bn. “Colonel Shreffler constantly set the example for innovation and efficiency across the brigade, making significant changes to officer training, setting the standard for all other branches to follow … is a true professional that is completely dedicated to preparing our future leaders and leaving everything he touches better than before he received it,” Farnell said.

Shreffler thanked all in attendance, then praised the members of the 304th: “We of the 304th have accomplished a great deal in the past 24 months — we have made a difference. I am most proud of leading this team of men and women who truly care about the profession and the unit mission,” Shreffler said.

Shreffler will join the 8th Army G2, in Korea as the chief of operations, G2.

Upon taking the podium, Price thanked all in attendance and delivered a message to his new battalion.

“To all members of the 304th team, I pledge to lead by example, support you in achieving our common mission and care for each member of our team. Together we will continue the standard of excellence that Colonel Shreffler and you achieved,” Price said.

Following the remarks, Soldiers of the 304th conducted a pass-and-review for the reviewing officer and both outgoing and incoming commanders. As the ceremony concluded, B Troop 4th Regiment U.S. Cavalry (Memorial) performed a ceremonial pistol charge across the parade field.

Price comes to the 304th after serving as director, Commander’s Initiatives Group, U.S. Army Intelligence Center of Excellence, Fort Huachuca. He also brings experience from outside the Military Intelligence community; commissioned in 1995 as an armor officer, Price deployed twice to Bosnia before attending the Military Intelligence Officer Transition Course in 1999.

Price is married to the former Kris Bauerfiend of Leipzig, Germany. They have three children: Anthony, Alexander and Anya.
