Tennis lessons for youth offered
The City of Sierra Vista Youth Summer Tennis Lessons will begin on July 9 with registration currently underway. Beginner lessons for youth 6-10 will be from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. The 11-17 year old beginner, advanced beginner/intermediate lessons for those 6-17 years old will be from 5:30-6:30 p.m. also on Mondays and Wednesdays for four consecutive weeks. The registration fee is $55 per student, with each class limited to 12. Lessons will be held at the Oscar Yrun Community Center Tennis Courts, 3020 E. Tacoma St.
Register is at all Leisure Services facilities.Â
Enroll in citizen fire academy
Those interested in learning about the local fire organization and operations are invited to enroll in the 2012 Sierra Vista Fire Department’s Citizens Fire Academy which begins July 12 and runs from 6 – 9 p.m. each Thursday night from 6 – 9 p.m.
Topics include life safety, emergency medical services, fire prevention, fire ground operations and more. Instructors are SVFD personnel. Academy graduates will have an “insider’s†view of SVFD fire operations.

Have summer fun on July 14
Join Mountain Vista Communities and more than 20 vendors at the 2nd Annual Summer Bash, July 14, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Mountain Vista Community Center, 102 Davis. Family oriented activities include jumping castles, free face painting and more. The entire military community is invited.Vendors will be selling crafts, other items and food. Games include Jell-o eating and water balloon tossing contests. No RSVP is needed.

Attend dinner theater, murder mystery
The Windemere Hotel and Conference Center in conjunction with the Illegitimate Theater Company will present their production of “A Deadly Habit – The SuperBowl Massacre,†a superbowl-themed play, Friday at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Windemere Grand Ballroom. Tickets are $30 in advance and $40 at the door for dinner and show or $12 for the show only.

Learn about climate reality
This past year has been marked by accelerating and alarming changes in the world’s climate. Learn what’s up in other parts of the country and in Arizona. Dr. Elna Otter, scientist and vice- chair of the Arizona state chapter of the Sierra Club will be in Sierra Vista to talk about this topic.
The free program takes place July 1, 1:30 p.m. at the Carr House Visitor Information Center.
The public is invited.
Carr House VIC, operated by the volunteer Friends of the Huachuca Mountains, is located up Carr Canyon Road off State Route 92. Turn right just before Mesquite Tree Restaurant and drive approximately three miles to the driveway which will be on the left-hand side of the road after passing through a concrete wash.
Shoot’n shindig planned for youth
The Huachuca Whitetail Club will sponsor a Shoot’n Shindig for Kids June 30 at the Sierra Vista Shooting Range on Highway 90, Sierra Vista. Registration begins at 8, and the event begins at 9 a.m. Youth 16 and under may participate if accompanied by an adult and registered by 9 a.m. There will be proper instruction for handling weapons, fun and competitive shooting events. Cost is $10 for adults, $7.50 for youth 8 – 16, and those 7 or under are free.

Garlic festival announced
Triangle T Historic Guest Ranch will host the 3rd Annual Garlic Festival, July 28 – 29 at 4190 Dragoon Rd., Dragoon.
There will be a farmers market, face painting, magic demonstrations, old west re-enactments, live music, cooking contest and garlic cooking demonstrations
