FH May water use is almost 15 percent lower than last May

Scout Reports

The water on Fort Huachuca pumped during May is 28,752,000 gallons, or 88 acre-feet, and is equivalent to 0.927 million gallons per day. The May pumpage is 14.6 percent less than the water pumped in May 2011, 103 acre-feet, and is 62 percent less than the 30-year (1982-2012) May average of 233 acre-feet. An acre-foot is the amount of water needed to cover an acre of land with one foot of water, about 326,000 gallons.

May water use at the U.S. Forest Service Air Tanker Station on Libby Army Airfield is 49,000 gallons used for wildfire suppression activities.

Treated effluent reuse for May is 13,890,000 gallons or 42.6 acre-feet. The 2012 year-to-date reuse, 223.2 acre-feet, is 39.9 percent higher than last year’s reuse for the same time period (140 acre-feet). Treated effluent reuse is water that did not have to be pumped from the groundwater aquifer, a water and energy savings, to irrigate the Mountain View Golf Course.

Treated effluent for May delivered to the East Range Recharge Facility is 725,000 gallons or 2.2 acre-feet. The year-to-date delivery is 86 acre-feet.

Wells #1 and #8 are currently inoperable. Well #4 is awaiting Arizona Department of Environmental Quality to operate.

The continuing reduction in ground water pumpage is attributed to the Water Wise educational program, ongoing conservation measures for existing structures, the Energy Efficiency and Water Conservation Design Guidelines for new construction and an aggressive water leak detection program.
