Play ‘Minute to Win It’ at Murr CC

Murr Community Center will host a “Minute to Win It” game night starting at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Patrons 18 and older are welcome. A pay-as-you-go beer bar will be available.

Soldier Show set for August 19, 20

The 2012 U.S. Army Soldier Show will be presented Sunday at 2 and 7 p.m. and Monday at 7 p.m., at the Buena Performing Arts Center, 5225 Buena School Blvd., Sierra Vista.

The Soldier Show is a 90-minute live musical revue, showcasing the talents of active duty Soldiers who were selected by audition from throughout the Army.

Admission is free, on a first-come, first-served basis. It is not necessary to have a ticket.

BOSS plans trip to Disneyland

Murr Community Center is accepting reservations through Monday for the Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers’ trip to Disneyland, set for Labor Day weekend, Aug. 31 – Sept. 3.

Cost is $250 per person and includes park admission, hotel stay and transportation. B.O.S.S. members can earn a $50 discount on the cost through the BOSS Volunteer Program.

Tournament coming up at Desert Lanes

Desert Lanes Bowling Center will host a “king of the hill” tournament beginning at 1 p.m. Aug. 25. The tournament is open to all United States Bowling Congress members, and the cost is $45 per person.

Go tubing on the Salt River

Outdoor Recreation has planned a tubing trip to the Lower Salt River on Aug. 25. Cost is $40 for tubing, with $25 paid

at the time of registration and $15 paid in cash at the float house for the tube and bus rides to drop-off/pickup sites.

The trip leaves at 7 a.m. from MWR Rents, Building 70914, Irwin Street.

Free movie returns to Irwin Pool

FMWR will present a free Moonlight Movie “Madagascar 2: Escape to Africa,” Aug. 25 at Irwin Pool. The movie will start at dusk.

Free popcorn, hot dogs, water and soft drinks will be provided, while supplies last.

Sesame Street/USO Experience for Military Families

The Sesame Street/USO Experience for Military Families will visit Fort Huachuca Sept. 13 and 14 with special shows at Barnes Field House at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. both days.

The show focuses on the challenges of deployments and their impact on military youth. During the performance, Elmo and his Sesame pals will help Katie — a military friend relocating to a new place — open up about her fears and excitement in dealing with change and making new friends.

Admission is free, and the shows are open to military identification card holders and their families.

FMWR seeks next ‘Rising Star’

FMWR is looking for contestants for the 2012 Operation Rising Star contest, a worldwide singing competition, based on the “American Idol” television series.

The contest is open to all branches of active duty military, Reserve, National Guard or their military Family members 18 and older. Applications are available now on-line at www.OpRisingStar.com. The local competition will be held in September.
