DoD food drive announced
The Department of Defense is supporting the Office of Personnel Management’s fourth annual “Feds Feed Families” Food Drive through August, with a goal of 1.5 million pounds. This food drive is a voluntary opportunity to give back to the communities in which employees live, work and train.
The primary objective is to collect donated non-perishable foodstuffs at all active installations, guard installations/camps/armories, and army reserve centers for donation to local area food banks. On Fort Huachuca, all food collected will go to the Installation Chapel Food Locker.

Celebrate Women’s Equality Day at SVPL
Residents are invited to celebrate Women’s Equality Day with a showing of the film, “The Day I Became a Woman,” followed by a discussion, tonight, 5 p.m. in the Mona Bishop Room of the Sierra Vista Public Library. This award-winning Iranian drama film tells three stories, each depicting a different stage in the lives of Iranian women. This event is free with free refreshments and sponsored by the Fort Huachuca Training and Doctrine Command Culture Center and the Equal Opportunity Office, the City of Sierra Vista’s Commission on Cultural Diversity and Cochise College’s Cultural Diversity Committee.

Fort to honor women’s equality
U.S. Army Garrison and partner organizations will join the Military Equal Opportunity Office in hosting a Women’s Equality Day ceremony, Wednesday at Fitch Auditorium, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. to promote cultural awareness within the Fort Huachuca and the local community.
The public is invited to attend, and there is no charge. This event is separate from the one which follows.
FH celebrates “Culture and Women”
“Culture and Women – a Global Perspective” at Fort Huachuca will take place Aug. 23, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Thunder Mountain Activity Centre. It is free and open to the public. This event has been designed to provide a cross-cultural educational experience through sharing stories about women and women’s equality across the globe. The schedule consists of speakers, small presentations, discussion, and video. A food sampling will bring a close to the event.

Job fair for military planned
The Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program and Military/Veteran Employment Resource Center in conjunction with the Arizona Coalition For Military Families presents “Boots to Badges” career fair plus a special presentation on oral boards and testing by the Glendale Police Department, Department of Homeland Security and Pinal County Sheriff Department Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Embassy Suites Phoenix-Scottsdale, 4415 E. Paradise Village Pkwy. South, Phoenix. Many law-enforcement, security agencies and first-responder employers will be present.

Students invited to free orientation
Cochise College is hosting free new student orientation sessions prior to the upcoming fall semester. Students are invited to learn more about opportunities available on campus, as well as details regarding financial aid, degree planning and other important information needed to succeed while attending college.
At the Sierra Vista Campus, 901 N. Columbo, Sierra Vista, orientation is Saturday, in the Student Union. Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m., while departments from campus are available to answer questions from students. Orientation officially runs from 9 a.m. – noon.
Sierra Vista’s orientation theme is “Getting Involved,” and its student government and clubs will host a carnival of activities to go with the information tables.

Traffic light to receive upgrades
On Sunday, the traffic signal at the intersection of Buffalo Soldier Trail and St. Andrews Drive, Sierra Vista, will be temporarily turned off from 6 a.m. – 3 p.m. for upgrades. During this time, the intersection will become a four-way stop with stop signs placed in each direction. When driving through this intersection, drive with caution and obey all posted signs.

Support families in crisis
CARE Team Training will take place Aug. 23, 6 – 8 p.m. in the Army Community Service conference room, Building 50010. A CARE Team is a group of volunteers who are trained to support families in crisis situations. They provide short-term assistance to families of fallen or seriously wounded Soldiers. Their goal is to offer care and practical assistance until the family’s support network arrives.

Fort to conduct force protection exercise
Fort Huachuca will conduct an installation force protection exercise, Apache Warrior 12, Aug. 28 – 29 to hone the skills necessary to effectively respond to an increased threat, emergencies and execute sustained operations at heightened levels to validate Fort Huachuca resiliency. More details follow in an article in next week’s issue of “The Fort Huachuca Scout.”
Commissary to hold seafood sale
The Commissary will present a seafood road show and sale Aug. 31 – Sept. 2 during normal business hours. Many fresh and frozen seafood items will be on sale.
All-Army Men’s Soccer Camp
The all Army Men’s Soccer Camp will take place on Fort Huachuca Aug. 29 – Sept. 22 on Bujalski field. Practices will be open to the public. When it becomes available, information will follow.
Chapel to resume Awana Clubs
Awana Clubs for pre-k – 6th grade youth will begin on Fort Huachuca starting Sept. 5 and run every Wednesday evening, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Main Post Chapel. RWBAHC organization day affects hours
Raymond W. Bliss Army Health Center will be holding its annual organization day on Sept. 14th, noon – 4 p.m. All clinics and ancillary services to include laboratory, radiology and pharmacy will close at 11:30 a.m. For urgent care needs, the Weekend/Holiday Access Clinic will be open noon – 4 p.m. Normal Weekend/Holiday Access Clinic hours will resume on Sept. 15.
