Tournament coming up at Desert Lanes

Desert Lanes Bowling Center will host a “king of the hill” tournament beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday. The tournament is open to all United States Bowling Congress members, and the cost is $45 per person.

Go tubing on the Salt River

Outdoor Recreation has planned a tubing trip to the Lower Salt River on Saturday. Cost is $40 for tubing, with $25 paid at the time of registration and $15 paid in cash at the float house for tubes and transportation.

The trip leaves at 7 a.m. from MWR Rents, Building 70914, Irwin Street.

Free movie returns to Irwin Pool

FMWR will present a free Moonlight Movie “Madagascar 2: Escape to Africa,” Saturday at Irwin Pool. The movie will start at dusk.

Free popcorn, hot dogs, water and soft drinks will be provided, while supplies last.

AA Men’s Soccer coming to FH

All Army Men’s Soccer Trial Camp will be held at Fort Huachuca Aug. 29 – Sept. 22.

Practices are open to the public, and will be held at Bujalski Field, next to Barnes Field House, from 9 – 11 a.m. and 7 – 9 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Sign up for free volleyball tournament

Murr Community Center will host a free volleyball tournament “in the sand” Sept. 2 starting at 2 p.m. Bring a six-person team, or teams will be assigned. Patrons 18 and older are welcome.

Sesame Street/USO Experience for Military Families

The Sesame Street/USO Experience for Military Families will visit Fort Huachuca Sept. 13 and 14 with special shows

at Barnes Field House at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. both days.

The show focuses on the challenges of deployments and their impact on military youth. During the performance, Elmo and his Sesame pals will help Katie — a military friend relocating to a new place — open up about her fears and excitement in dealing with change and making new friends.

Admission is free, and the shows are open to military identification card holders and their families.

New hours at Irwin Pool

The Sports, Fitness and Aquatics Division has announced new hours at Irwin Pool. Through Sept. 3, the pool will be open from 2 – 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.

They will continue to be open from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Saturdays and from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. Sundays.

FMWR seeks next ‘Rising Star’

FMWR is looking for contestants for the 2012 Operation Rising Star contest, a worldwide singing competition, based on the “American Idol” television series.

The contest is open to all branches of active duty military, Reserve, National Guard or their military Family members 18 and older. Applications are available now on-line at www.OpRisingStar.com. The local competition will be held in September.
