Get out and vote!

Voting is a constitutional right that American citizens 18 years and older can freely exercise. The Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act covers all active-duty members of the uniformed services and their families and assists them in exercising their right to vote. Raymond W. Bliss sets Labor Day Hours

Raymond W. Bliss Army Health Center Weekend and Holiday Clinic will be open Friday through Monday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. People can call the same day to make an appointment, 533.9165.

OCS board to select attendees

The next Installation Officer Candidate School Board will convene on Sept. 18. All packets are due to the Actions and Promotions Office no later than Sept. 4. Interested Soldiers should see their S-1 personnel.

Commissary to hold seafood sale

The Commissary will present a seafood road show and sale Friday – Sunday during normal business hours. Many fresh and frozen seafood items will be on sale.

Chapel to resume Awana Clubs

Awana Clubs for pre-k – 6th grade youth will begin on Fort Huachuca starting Wednesday and run every Wednesday evening, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Main Post Chapel. Learn to speak English

The Sierra Vista United Methodist Church will offer free Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced English-as-a-Second Language Classes for 10 weeks, Sept. 17 – Nov. 19. Classes will meet twice a week in the Fellowship Hall — on Mondays, from 12:30 – 2:30 p.m. and on Fridays, from 10 a.m. – noon.

Registration will be held on Sept. 10, 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. and Sept. 14, 5 – 6 p.m. at Sierra Vista United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 3225 S. St Andrews Drive.

Honor deceased veterans

Missing In America Project Arizona invites all veterans, veteran groups and patriots to accompany the veteran funeral escort team to Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1300 Buffalo Soldier Trail, Sierra Vista to honor 19 indigent and homeless Army, Navy, Marine and Air Force veterans as they are interred with honors. The local muster takes place Sept. 12, 11:15 a.m. at RV City, 2095 N. State Route 90, Huachuca City.

The public is invited to the honors service at the cemetery. It begins at 1 p.m.

RWBAHC organization day affects hours

Raymond W. Bliss Army Health Center will be holding its annual organization day on Sept. 14th, noon – 4 p.m. All clinics and ancillary services to include laboratory, radiology, main pharmacy and the refill pharmacy at the PX will close at 11:30 a.m. The main pharmacy will be open on Sept. 15, 8 – 11:30 a.m. For urgent care needs, the Weekend/Holiday Access Clinic will be open noon – 4pm. Normal Weekend/Holiday Access Clinic hours will resume on Sept. 15.

Job fair announced

American Career Builders in conjunction with the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Sierra Vista will hold a job fair at the VFW Sept. 14, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at 549 Veterans Dr. It will feature only companies that are hiring in September and October.

Attend home-buying seminar

Veterans Affairs loans and refinancing will be discussed at a home buying seminar Sept. 18, 6 p.m. at the Housing Services Office, Building 52065 at Smith and Arizona Avenues. The seminar is open to active duty service members, current Department of Defense employees and their spouses. Seating is limited.

Army seeks award nominees

Headquarters Department of the Army announces its participation in the 2011 GEICO Military Service Awards Program. This award will recognize six enlisted winners, one from each of the active duty services, together with one from the Reserve/National Guard, for special contributions to the military and/or civilian community in the following areas: drug and alcohol abuse prevention; fire safety and fire prevention; and traffic safety and accident prevention.

HQDA requests that each Army command, Army service component command, direct reporting unit, and HQDA principal agency submit at least one nomination for each category to: Commander, U.S. Army Combat Readiness/Safety Center, attn: Christopher Bokenfohr, Building 4905 5th Ave., Ft. Rucker, AL, 36362, no later than Nov. 1.

Digital mammography offered

The Mammography Department at the Raymond W. Bliss Army Health Center now offers the Fuji Computed Radiology for Mammography, the most popular technology in the world for full field digital mammography. Those enrolled in TRICARE Prime, Standard, or Medicare are eligible for appointments.

Get babies’ health checkups

The Raymond W. Bliss Army Health Center offers well-child visits, an important part of preventive healthcare for children. The first recommended checkup starts at three – five days after birth, followed by visits at 2 – 4 weeks, 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18 months and 2 years of age. To make an appointment with a pediatrician, call 533.9200.

Training offered to USAR Soldiers

The 6402d Reserve Training Unit is a “points only,” no-pay Individual Ready Reserve unit. Troop Program Unit and Individual Mobilization Augmentee Soldiers are invited to drill with them for points. Meetings are 6:30 p.m., the first three Tuesdays of the month, Building 74801 on Jim Ave. near the U Store It on Fort Huachuca.

Well women walk-in day

Raymond W. Bliss Army Health Center offers a Well Women Walk-In Clinic for patients assigned to RWBAHC on the first Tuesday of every month, 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. in Clinic A. No appointment is needed.

The clinic helps schedule mammograms, colon or cervical cancer screenings, diabetic lab checks, asthma control, annual lab tests, referrals, consults and more.

Nutrition care appointments available

Those who want to learn about a healthy diet and proper nutrition can schedule nutrition care appointments at the Raymond W. Bliss Army Health Center. Call 533.9139 to schedule an appointment.
