SVPD traffic enforcement campaign
This month, the Sierra Vista Police Department is conducting a traffic enforcement campaign against aggressive driving with a focus on following too closely. Following too closely, or “tailgating,” remains one of the primary causes of accidents in Sierra Vista. Drivers could avoid this type of accident by leaving two-seconds or more space between vehicles.
Drivers following too closely will be cited and could be fined $173. For more information, call 452.7500.

Voting is a constitutional right that American citizens 18 years and older can freely exercise. The Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act covers all active-duty members of the uniformed services and their families and assists them in exercising their right to vote.

Learn to speak English
The Sierra Vista United Methodist Church will offer free Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced English-as-a-Second Language Classes for 10 weeks, Sept. 17 – Nov. 19. Classes will meet twice a week in the Fellowship Hall — on Mondays, from 12:30 – 2:30 p.m. and on Fridays, from 10 a.m. – noon. Registration will be held on Monday, 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. and Sept. 14, 5 – 6 p.m. at Sierra Vista United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 3225 S. St Andrews Drive.

Honor deceased veterans
Missing In America Project Arizona invites all veterans, veteran groups and patriots to accompany the veteran funeral escort team to Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1300 Buffalo Soldier Trail, Sierra Vista to honor 19 indigent and homeless Army, Navy, Marine and Air Force veterans as they are interred with honors. The local muster takes place Wednesday, 11:15 a.m. at RV City, 2095 N. State Route 90, Huachuca City. The public is invited to the honors service at the cemetery. It begins at 1 p.m.

RWBAHC organization day affects hours
Raymond W. Bliss Army Health Center will be holding its annual organization day on Sept. 14th, noon – 4 p.m. All clinics and ancillary services to include laboratory, radiology, main pharmacy and the refill pharmacy at the PX will close at 11:30 a.m. The main pharmacy will be open on Sept. 15, 8 – 11:30 a.m. For urgent care needs, the Weekend/Holiday Access Clinic will be open noon – 4 p.m. Normal Weekend/Holiday Access Clinic hours will resume on Sept. 15.

Job fair announced
American Career Builders in conjunction with the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Sierra Vista will hold a job fair at the VFW Sept. 14, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at 549 Veterans Dr. It will feature only companies that are hiring in September and October.
Attend home-buying seminar
Veterans Affairs loans and refinancing will be discussed at a home buying seminar Sept. 18, 6 p.m. at the Housing Services Office, Building 52065 at Smith and Arizona Avenues. The seminar is open to active duty service members, current Department of Defense employees and their spouses. Seating is limited.

Army seeks award nominees
Headquarters Department of the Army announces its participation in the 2011 GEICO Military Service Awards Program. This award will recognize six enlisted winners, one from each of the active duty services, together with one from the Reserve/National Guard, for special contributions to the military and/or civilian community in the following areas: drug and alcohol abuse prevention; fire safety and fire prevention; and traffic safety and accident prevention.
HQDA requests that each Army command, Army service component command, direct reporting unit, and HQDA principal agency submit at least one nomination for each category to: Commander, U.S. Army Combat Readiness/Safety Center, attn: Christopher Bokenfohr, Building 4905 5th Ave., Ft. Training offered to USAR Soldiers
The 6402d Reserve Training Unit is a “points only,” no-pay Individual Ready Reserve unit. Troop Program Unit and Individual Mobilization Augmentee Soldiers are invited to drill with them for points. Walk-in well-woman exams offered
Well-woman exams are performed on a walk-in basis from 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month in the main Health Center, Family Care Clinic A. Appointments can be scheduled at any other time by calling 533.9200.

The loop in front of the R.W. Bliss Army Health Center is open to facilitate patient access to the facility. Parking is not permitted in the patient drop-off area.
