September is National Preparedness Month

This month marks the ninths annual commemoration of National Preparedness Month. This commemoration encourages Army leaders, Soldiers, their Families and civilians to prepare for all hazards — emergencies at home, work and throughout the community.  The event is a U.S. Army-wide, month-long effort hosted by the Ready Army Campaign encouraging individuals, organizations and households to prepare and plan for emergencies.

One of NPM’s key messages is for people to be prepared in the event an emergency causes them to be self-reliant for three days without utilities and electricity, water service, access to a supermarket or local services, or maybe even without response from police, fire or rescue for several hours. Preparing can start with four important steps — Be informed. Make a plan. Build a kit. Get Involved.
