Commissary Rewards Card now available to save customers cash

The Defense Commissary Agency has launched a new electronic coupon system. The Commissary Rewards Card allows customers to access and redeem digital coupons at all of its stores; however traditional paper coupons will continue to be available to customers.

“It’s a really good additional money savings on the commissary savings,” said Judy Mendez, store director, Fort Huachuca Commissary.

The cards will allow customers to reduce the number of paper coupons they have to clip and carry.

“We have a lot of customers that are into couponing and this gives them something that they don’t have to cut. The customers so far have had very positive feedback,” Mendez stated.

The cards are now available at the Fort Huachuca Commissary. As an introductory offer, customers who pick up cards by Oct. 24 will receive preloaded digital coupons that they can use in the commissary immediately, DeCA Director and CEO Joseph Jeu said.

After picking up a card, customers must register it at DeCA’s website, www.commissaries.com. During registration, users are required to select a 10-digit ID. Digital coupons are then loaded to the customer’s account. At the commissary, the reward card is scanned at the register and coupons are automatically matched to purchases. The savings are then automatically deducted, the agency said.

“It’s very user friendly, they [customers] just scan them [cards], and if they bought the item the coupon comes up,” added Mendez.

Customers can log into their accounts periodically to load new coupons on the card. New offers will appear every two or three weeks, according to DeCA.

Currently, the rewards card does not include a point system, but more features to the electronic coupon program are expected to be added in the near future. For example, if a customer favors a certain type of product, certain coupons and promotions of interest could be directed at that customer, according to DeCA spokesman Kevin Robinson.

“If a person is buying pet products and that’s a primary thing they’re purchasing, then maybe we can alert them to certain promotions, but all these things are down the line,” Robinson said.

“This first thing is the electronic coupon.”
