Learn more about SV history

The Serra Vista Historical Society dedicated a 15th historical plaque for its “A New Twist on ‘Then’; Sierra Vista’s Historical Places” in celebration of Sierra Vista’s 50 years of history. It features Sue and Herb’s Drive-In, 750 E. Fry Boulevard. Those interested in learning more about the City’s local history can visit the Henry Hauser Museum, inside the Ethel Berger Center, 2950 E. Tacoma Street, Sierra Vista. Exhibits feature the Historic Plaque Program and World War II Living History Interview Collection. The museum is open Monday to Thursday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Admission is free.

Huachuca Astronomy Club meets

The Huachuca Astronomy Club will hold its next meeting Friday, 7 p.m. in the Community Room in the Student Union Building at Cochise College. The guest speaker will be the Astronomical League’s Planetary Nebula observing program coordinator, Ted Forte. He is a contributing editor of “Sky& Telescope Magazine” and the author of several articles on deep sky observing including “Flowers of the Night Sky.

Rotary Club to sponsor run

The Sierra Vista Rotary Club is sponsoring a 5k run and walk starting Saturday, 8 a.m. at Len Roberts Park located in the 100 block of Theater Drive.

Titled, “How the West was Run,” the course meanders in and around the west end of Sierra Vista.

A free T-shirt will be given to the first 50 who sign up. Entry fee is $20 per person or $10 for those 12 or under.

Arts, crafts season to open

The 41st Annual Art in the Park, a two-day arts and crafts show with more than 140 vendors selected by a Huachuca Art Association jury, unofficially opens the holiday craft show season in Cochise County. It takes place Saturday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Veterans’ Memorial Park, Fry Boulevard, in Sierra Vista. There is no charge for admission or for parking.

Mineral, gem show set

The Huachuca Mineral and Gem Club will host its 38th annual show Oct. 13, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Oct. 14, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Cochise College, 901 N. Columbo, Sierra Vista. Admission and parking are free. There will be live demonstrations, educational displays, gems, jewelry, lapidary supplies and geode cutting.

Patagonia Fall Festival announced

Stroll under mature shade trees, visit more than 140 arts-and-crafts vendors, see live entertainment, displays and enjoy food outdoors at the Patagonia Fall Festival at 11 a.m. on Oct. 12 and 10 a.m. on Oct. 13 – 14.

The Gazebo Stage, located in the center of Town Park, is the focal point for the weekend’s free musical entertainment.

McKeown Avenue will be closed to traffic, creating a venue for street performers, access to the local galleries and restaurants of Patagonia, and additional handicapped parking. Admission and entertainment are free to the public, and the park is wheelchair accessible. Free mini-van and horse drawn wagon parking shuttles provide access to additional parking areas.

Patagonia Town Park is located on State Route 82 between Sonoita and Nogales, approximately one hour from Sierra Vista.

FHCSC October luncheon planned

The next meeting of the Fort Huachuca Community Spouses Club, open to all ranks and any gender, will take place Oct. 18, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Buffalo Corral Riding Stables off Canelo Rd. on Fort Huachuca. The program is a Texas-style barbecue and horseback ride through the Huachuca Mountains for $15.

Myer School site of festival/bazaar

The General Myer Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization’s Fall Festival/Bazaar will take place Oct. 20, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. and is open to the public. It will feature crafts vendors, children’s activities, food, a book fair and more. Bring a pumpkin and enter a pumpkin carving contest.

Wristbands, on sale for $10 in advance or $13 at the door, covers all-day play. Tickets for individual activities or food are five for $1 in advance or four for $1 at the door. An arm span of tickets will cost $20.

Local school to hold craft fair/bazaar

The Town and Country Elementary School Parent Teacher Student Organization will hold its Fall Festival and Crafts Bazaar on Oct. 20 at Golf Links and Lenzner, Sierra Vista. The crafts bazaar runs from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. and the festival takes place from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Admission is free, and the public is invited. Halloween costumes are encouraged.
