Festival was fun time for all

In spite of rainy beginnings, Fort Huachuca’s 2012 Fun Festival proved to be an event enjoyed by hundreds after the skies cleared in time for the weekend. Fifty-seven people and 50 dogs took part in Saturday’s Mutt March at Veterans’ Memorial Park, and the three competitors in this year’s “Rising Star” competition took to the stage Saturday night after being rained out on Friday. Ryan Moore was declared the winner for his performance of “We’re Not Gonna Take This Any More” and took home $500, while Angie Beugeas took second, netting her $300 and Brooke Guckien won $100 for her performance.

The City of Fun Carnival brought rides for all ages and thrill levels, and various local bands provided entertainment for the crowd all weekend long.

On Sunday, Family Day, animals from Barney’s Backyard Petting Zoo were a fair-goer highlight attracting visitors of all ages before the festival wrapped up activities for another year.

“The weather was beautiful and those who attended seemed to have a good time,” said Family and Morale Welfare and Recreation employee Kathy Miller, who videotaped the “Rising Star” contestants and registered those participating in the Mutt March.
