Bikes and bands rocked Fort Huachuca Sunday

During one of the hourly demonstrations Sunday, a motorcyclist soars through the air on his bike to show off his riding prowess and thrill the crowd. Hundreds turned out for the Bikes and Bands event on Fort Huachuca.

Brigade FMX World Wide Extreme Motor Sports came to Fort Huachuca on Sunday with a show that literally shut down Hatfield Street. The Bikes and Bands event was hosted by the Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation along with the local business, Sierra Cycles. There was something for almost everyone — from the rock climbing wall, jumping castles and paintball for youth to bike displays, biker gear and adult beverage vendors for the adults.

The highlight of the event was an hourly demonstration by three performers on their extreme dirt bikes. Cheers erupted from the crowd, with the occasional gasp, as the stunts became more daring when bikers launched from a platform, soaring 75 feet through the air while performing acrobatic maneuvers before safely returning to the ground.

On the other end of the street, the Thunder Mountain Band featuring Emma Mayne performed a variety of music from old, southern rock to pop and modern favorites. Hundreds of people from Fort Huachuca and the surrounding community came out to watch the festivities and dance in the street.
