Chalk Talk – October 18, 2012

Students in Mrs. Szymeczek’s class recently went on a field trip to Brown Canyon Ranch where they learned about local history, the Firewise program and songs of the west. They also observed creatures that live in the pond at the ranch. A big ‘thank you’ to the many volunteers at the ranch who made the trip special for the students; each boy and girl wrote and illustrated thank-you notes to send to the volunteers.

Students are becoming very familiar with using their Neo Boards to practice typing skills, write stories, take accelerated reading tests, score accelerated math assignments and practice math facts. They have also mentored their third-grade buddy class on how to use the Neos.

In reading groups, fourth-grade students have been reading stories in the new Language Arts series book. By using graphic organizers, students have been improving their inference, sequence of events, and characters-and-setting analysis skills.
