Throughout our nation’s history, patriotic men and women have answered the call to military service on behalf of their fellow countrymen. Today, hundreds of thousands of patriots like you are carrying on this noble tradition, and this Nov. 11 we will pause to honor the sacrifices made by every veteran, past and present. Thank you for your service and dedication to our Army, our Brothers and Sisters in uniform, and the freedoms and prosperity of every American.
Many of our military, civilians, and their Families will use this holiday weekend to travel outside the local area to visit relatives, friends or enjoy a fall vacation. I expect leaders at all levels to ensure our service members and civilians are informed on the potential hazards during this long weekend. Remember to have personnel who are traveling perform a risk assessment by accessing the Travel Risk Planning System, or TRIPS, at https://safety.army.mil to plan for long drives and the U.S. Army Combat Readiness/Safety Center Website to plan for other recreational activities.
Above all this holiday, we must stand by our responsibilities. Leaders set an example in everything they do from wearing a seatbelt to volunteering as a designated driver. Remember that when you take unnecessary risks or tolerate risky behavior from your Soldiers or friends, it always affects someone else, and the consequences can be devastating.
We remain proud of our Army Family and thank you again for what you do each and every day for our nation. Please take a moment on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month to honor veterans, past and present. There is no greater testament to the warrior spirit than your continued service, and we need every one of you in the fight. Enjoy this Holiday break safely; you deserve it!
