Cove closed for maintenance
The Sierra Vista Aquatic Center, The Cove, is closed for maintenance to Nov. 26. Annually, The Cove closes for two weeks for general maintenance. This year, more extensive maintenance is necessary.
Maintenance includes: refurbishing the support beams and re-concreting portions of the deck; replacing the observation deck railings; and refurbishing the slide stairs. Tile in the locker rooms and showers will be replaced. General maintenance includes cleaning, replacing light fixtures, checking vents and all other equipment.

Learn to square dance
Sierra Vista’s Thunder Mountain Twirlers Square Dance Club is offering A-B-C Fun Dances, an easy introduction to square dancing, 6 – 7:30 p.m. on Friday nights through mid-January at the Sierra Vista Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 101 N. Lenzner Ave. Cost is $3 per person; the first night is free. Wear casual attire and comfortable shoes. Snacks are provided. Mainstream dancing is held every Friday from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m.

Taste newly released wines
Sonoita Vineyards presents its 13th Annual St. Martin’s New Release Festival on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. The festival includes wine tasting, a souvenir glass, winery tours, food and wine pairings as part of “Savor Sonoita,” and horse-drawn wagon rides through the vineyard. Admission is $15. Lunch will be available from two local Sonoita restaurants at an additional cost.

Golf tournament announced
The Tucson Veterans Affairs Committee will sponsor a golf tournament at General Blanchard Golf Course, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base on Nov. 17 at 8:30 a.m. Cost for the four-player scramble is $75 per golfer. Prizes will be awarded for closest to the pin and longest drive. Deadline for registration is Saturday.

Attend plaque dedication
Join the Sierra Vista Historical Society in dedicating its new historical plaque for its “A New Twist on ‘Then’; Sierra Vista’s Historical Places.” Learn how Sierra Vista used its air raid sirens to serve and protect the community, years after the Cold War, to summon volunteer firefighters before modern dispatching systems were available to this small community. A dedication ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, 10 a.m., at Veterans’ Memorial Park on Fry Boulevard.

Guided tour of Buffalo Soldier Sites

History Walk – Millville Ruins & Petroglyphs
Join the Friends of the San Pedro River on Nov. 17 for an interpretive walk at the historic town of Millville. The Corbin and Gird mills processed silver ore mined in Tombstone. These stamp mills on the east side of the river roared day and night for the “boom” years between 1878 and 1889. This site is also well known for its many petroglyphs etched into the rocky hillsides. The walk is about one-and-a-half miles and will take about two hours.
Meet at 9 a.m. at the Millville Parking Area, about one quarter mile east of the San Pedro River, on the north side of Charleston Road. Admission is free but donations are accepted.

13th Annual Festival of Trees
Christmas trees, wreaths, and centerpieces are donated by business and individuals and placed on display at The Mall at Sierra Vista during the Festival of Trees. All entries are judged and winners are presented with ribbons that are displayed with their entries. Viewing takes place Nov. 18 – 29 during normal mall hours.
