ACS provides safety awareness information
Safety is always a top concern for parents. Here are guidelines from Fort Huachuca’s Unattended Child Policy #048.

Motor vehicles are not safe places for children to be left alone. Parents must be able to observe children at all times, including during roadside emergencies. Do not ever leave the car running, and do not leave the ignition key within access of a child.

Never leave a child in a car alone — even to run into a store for a moment.

Children 10-11 may be left alone in an unsupervised home for a reasonable period of time, not to exceed four hours. Children 12 and older may be left alone for a reasonable period of time. Children under 12 may not baby-sit, even for siblings. Children under 16 will not be left alone overnight.

All children must be provided the information for home and work numbers. Parents are responsible for providing all prearranged plans. Parents must consider all factors, provide for emergencies and take into consideration the emotional, mental and physical capabilities of the child. Please contact ACS for the full policy at 533.2330 or the Family Advocacy Program manager, at 533.6873.
