Maj. Gen. Gregg Potter, commanding general of the U.S. Army Intelligence Center of Excellence and Fort Huachuca, will relinquish command in a ceremony Jan. 24, 10:30 a.m., on Brown Parade Field here. He assumed command Dec. 8, 2010.
The Army chief of staff announced in October that Potter will move on to a new assignment as deputy chief of staff, Intelligence, International Security Assistance Force, Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
Maj. Gen. Robert P. Ashley, Jr., currently deputy chief of staff, Intelligence, ISAF, Operation OEF in Afghanistan, will be Potter’s replacement. Ashley’s assumption of command ceremony is tentatively scheduled to take place later this spring. The date will be announced once it has been set.
The public is invited to join Fort Huachuca in celebrating this colorful military tradition. Participating units include the 62nd Army Band, 111th Military Intelligence Brigade, Non-Commissioned Officers Academy, 2-13th Aviation Regiment, U.S. Army Garrison, Medical and Dental Commands, 11th Theater Tactical Signal Brigade, Marine Corps Detachment, Air Force Detachment and B Troop, 4th U.S. Cavalry Regiment (Memorial).
Grierson Avenue and other streets on the perimeter of the parade field will be closed to through traffic prior to and during the ceremony. Parking will be extremely limited; therefore attendees are encouraged to carpool and allow additional time in the event of parking in a distant parking lot. All attendees are also asked to disable their car alarms for the ceremony to prevent them from going off when the cannons are fired to render honors.
Fort Huachuca, founded in 1877, is the last old West outpost still functioning as an active military installation. Today, the installation has a $2 billion economic impact on the state and supports the warfighter and missions of the Department of Defense.
