FMWR Briefs – January 18, 2013

FAP schedules new classes

The Family Advocacy Program at Army Community Service will offer several new classes, on these dates and topics:

Tuesdays from 1 – 2 p.m., join them for a one-hour discussion on healthy alternatives for domestic violence; Wednesdays at noon they will hold a 45-minute “mindfulness” session, designed to increase attention and focus, and decrease stress reactions; and Thursdays beginning at 11 a.m., they will offer a parenting class that focuses on learning new ways to discipline. The FAP also offers Management Class monthly.

Class for expectant parents set

”Baby Boot Camp” is an educational opportunity for parents who are expecting a baby. The classes are held the third Tuesday of each month, 3 – 4 p.m. at the Army Community Service Conference Room.

The classes are open to all ID card holders, but space is limited, so pre-registration is required. To register, call ACS at 533.2330 or 533.8961.

ACS offers play group

The Parent–Tot Play Group is a parent/child interactive play group for any parent who is an ID card holder and has a child 3 or younger.

The group will meet Wednesdays, when school is in session, 9:30 – 11 a.m. at the School Age Services Building. The program is designed to help children improve their social, cognitive and motor skills.

Space is limited, so pre-registration is advised. To register, call Army Community Service, 533.2330 or 533.8961.

Time to sign up for CC soccer

The coaches’ meeting for the 2013 Commander’s Cup Intramural Soccer Program will be held Jan 22, beginning at 10 a.m. at Barnes Field House. Letters of intent are due Jan. 22 at close of business and should include the team point-of-contact, duty phone and email. Team rosters are due by COB Jan. 28. The program will begin Feb. 4.

Pamper yourself at TMAC

The Thunder Mountain Activity Centre staff will present “Martini & Massage Night” Jan. 26, 6 – 9 p.m. Cost is $5 per person and includes appetizers, a martini, mini manicures, and a 10-minute massage (first-come, first-served).

Vendors will also be available, so bring a friend and enjoy food, fun and shopping!

MWR Rents has Phoenix Suns NBA tickets

MWR Rents has vouchers available for discounted tickets to Phoenix Suns basketball games.

They have also scheduled the following Phoenix Suns NBA Basketball game trips: March 9, Suns versus the Houston Rockets, cost $35 for ticket, $50 for ticket with transportation; and March 20, Suns versus the Indiana Pacers, cost $40 for ticket, $55 for ticket with transportation. A limited number of tickets are available with transportation.

Murr to host Super Bowl Party

Murr Community Center will host a Super Bowl Party Feb. 3, and doors will open two hours before kick-off.

The party is open to all military ID card holders and Family members 18 and older. There will be free food and a pay-as-you-go beer bar, and the chance to win prizes, including an Xbox 360.

Free fitness classes offered

The Sports, Fitness and Aquatics Division offers free ongoing fitness classes, including spinning, Zumba, yoga, aerobics, water fitness classes and more.
