General Myer Elementary School
On the 100th day of school, the General Myer Elementary School fifth-grade team worked towards having each class read 100 books and take 100 Accelerated Reading Tests with a passing grade of 80 percent or higher. All five fifth grade classes read a total combined amount of 562 books which was more than 100 books per class, meeting above the 100-day-of-school-goal! Way to go, students!
The fifth grade recently visited Buena High School to watch the Sierra Vista Symphony perform. Everyone had a great time and even dressed up. As they listened to the symphony conducted by Roger Bays, they heard the “William Tell Overture” performed live and were introduced to all the different sections of an orchestra.
This month the students are looking forward to a field trip to the Flandreau Planetarium as an extension to the current science lessons on the solar system. In reading and language arts, they are focusing on poetry and integrating technology as the students create a personal poetry book using the www.storybird.com website.
The entire fifth grade is working on science fair projects, and the science exhibition will be held at the end of February. Mrs. Tomlin and her class welcome Mrs. Capel to their class as she will be beginning her student teaching this semester.
