New phone scam alert

The Cochise County Sheriff Department staff alerts the public to a new scam that has been reported to the sheriff’s office several times. The callers reporting these incidents state someone calls them advising that they are from a company such as Microsoft, etc. The recipient of the call is then advised that they apparently have a virus on their computer and the person calling needs to get the user name and password so the computer can be fixed and secured.

This is a scam to get personal information. Never give it out over the phone unless you initiate the call. Guard personal information closely.
