More social media outlets added to Fort Huachuca’s news communication

Acting as the voice of the Army, social media has become a powerful tool for staying connected and spreading important themes and messages to large audiences within the military community.

As technology advances and social media outlets increase, Fort Huachuca’s Public Affairs Office has adopted some of these new avenues such as smartphone applications and the latest social media webpages.

The “Thunder Mountaineer,” Fort Huachuca’s post guide and telephone directory, provides information regarding in-processing, registration, housing, maps and the post’s history. It is available at the Public Affairs Office, or online at www.mybaseguide.com; however, be sure to download the new MyBaseGuide Mobile App.

Designed for smartphones, this free app provides essential information about an installation and its surrounding areas, such as housing, education, health care, community activities and recreation, all at the user’s fingertips.

The official Fort Huachuca webpage, www.army.mil/huachuca, is the main portal to all Fort Huachuca news and social media links, links to many useful websites, the mission statement and more.

A Pinterest webpage, www.pinterest.com/forthuachuca, was recently created to collect and organize Fort Huachuca- and Department of Defense-related pictures and information that has been “pinned” by other similar organizations.

Channel 97 is Fort Huachuca’s command information channel, a 24/7 cable news source for approved Fort Huachuca and Department of Defense news.

For those who do not subscribe to cable, Channel 97 can be viewed online via UStream, www.ustream.tv/channel/forthuachuca, a live video stream of Channel 97 designed for public use.

Vimeo and YouTube are video sharing websites that house all of the Fort Huachuca Public Affairs video productions. These can be viewed, downloaded and shared with family and friends for free. To view the latest videos, visit http://vimeo.com/forthuachuca/videos or www.youtube.com and search for ‘Commander 97.’

Similar to Vimeo and YouTube, the Fort Huachuca Public Affairs Flickr webpage, www.flickr.com/photos/us_army_fort_huachuca/, is used as a warehouse for limited photography of major events covered by members of the public affairs staff. These pictures can be viewed, downloaded and shared as well.

For those who prefer social networking, a Facebook page is available to get the most recent Fort Huachuca news stories, videos and photos distributed by Public Affairs Office personnel. Visit www.facebook.com/u.s.armyforthuachuca and connect with more than 23,000 other followers.

Twitter, a platform that allows users to “follow” Fort Huachuca Public Affairs, is used to post messages that pertain to official Fort Huachuca and Army news. To follow, search Fort_Huachuca.

Published the “old-fashioned” way, “The Fort Huachuca Scout” newspaper hits numerous stands, both on and off post, every Friday morning, informing the community of the current military news and events. Keeping up with the times, an online version is available at www.aerotechnews.com/forthuachuca/ or via a smartphone.

Whether a newcomer to the Fort Huachuca area, or a long-term resident, why not take time to explore each avenue to find any information possibly needed?

For more guidance, contact Fort Huachuca Public Affairs, 533.1985.
