Fort Huachuca continues its community Sexual Harassment Assault Response and Prevention, or SHARP, outreach campaign.

The prevention of Sexual Harassment and Sexual Assault is a top priority of the U.S. Army; Maj. Gen. Robert Ashley, commanding general, U.S. Army Intelligence Center of Excellence and Fort Huachuca; Brig. Gen. Pete Gallagher, acting commanding general, Network Enterprise Technology Command; and the entire Fort Huachuca leadership team.

As part of Fort Huachuca’s aggressive campaign plan to hammer this message home, U. S. Army Garrison Fort Huachuca will host retired Maj. Gen. Robert Shadley Sept. 23 and 24 to speak on “Leadership in Crisis.” His presentations will address his personal leadership challenges and thoughts on how to combat the sexual assault problems facing the military today.

Shadley is a 35-year veteran of the U.S. Army who held many leadership positions, including the chief of ordnance and commanding general of the Ordnance School at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md., from 1995 to 1997. This was during the time when an investigation led to many Soldiers being disciplined for inappropriate behavior. Shadley led the charge to identify the victims and perpetrators and conducted an analysis to find the cause.

In his newly released book, “The GAMe — Unraveling a Military Sex Scandal,” Shadley allows readers to walk by his side as he unravels the GAM, or Game ala military, at Aberdeen Proving Ground in 1996. The abuse of power was the basis for the insidious efforts of drill sergeants and other instructors on military bases to obtain sexual favors from female trainees.

Four presentations of “Leadership in Crisis” will take place at Fort Huachuca:
Sept. 23, 10 – 11:30 a.m. and 1 – 2:30 p.m. in Greely Hall Auditorium, Building 61801, and 3 – 4:30 p.m. at Murr Community Center, Building 51301.

Sept. 24, 3 – 4:30 p.m. at Murr Community Center, Building 51301.

These presentations are free and open to the public. Questions or concerns can be addressed by calling the Garrison Sexual Assault Response Coordinator, 538.5971 or 582.5973.
