CPAC focuses on recruiting, developing civilian workforce

Whether you’re seeking employment or a current employee, the Fort Huachuca Civilian Personnel Advisory Center, or CPAC, is here to provide support. According to armycivilianservice.com, “ … more than 330,000 men and women working in every profession imaginable are not active duty military, but serve as an integral part of the Army team to support the defense of our nation. We are a global family that encourages excellence, professional development and balance.”

The main focus of CPAC is to recruit, develop, and sustain a professional civilian workforce. Greg Jones, CPAC director stated. The unique aspect of this service is to provide effective, efficient, and responsive Human Resource products and advisory services.

“When we recruit, we work very closely with the organization and management through a strategic recruit discussion to develop the materials required to open up a vacancy announcement to solicit for applicants. This is the impetus of the recruitment process, because this is where the applicant pool is developed. To apply for an Army civilian position, a job-seeker can go to www.usajobs.com. The applicant can then create an account, build a resume, and search and apply for jobs. Once the job announcement closes, CPAC will review the applicants that applied for eligibility and qualifications and refer the best qualified to management.

In addition to serving the Army civilian population, CPAC provides information to and counsels military spouses regarding employment opportunities aboard Fort Huachuca.

“We’re responsible for reviewing and ensuring that all military spouses who are eligible to be registered in the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program, or PPP, are registered,” Jones said.

The Priority Placement Program provides placement assistance to spouses of active duty military members that relocate to a new duty station. Another focus of the CPAC is to assist with benefits questions. CPAC personnel provide basic information regarding benefits and welcome information for new employees, including full-time and part-time personnel. They can also provide information on retirement eligibility. Most of this information can also be found online, from the Army Benefits Center website, www.abc.army.mil.

“If [civilians] have questions regarding benefits, or … question[s] about retirement eligibility, that’s important, and we can assist them with that to a certain point,” Jones said.

Over the years, the Civilian Human Resources Agency, or CHRA, has increased its electronic footprint online by adding sites to its ABC-C and MYBIZ websites affording employees access to benefits information 24/7. This is extremely important for all employees to understand; they have the capability to review a personal statement of benefits online when they access the Employee Benefits Information System, or EBIS, on the ABC-C website. This document will provide a quick overview of retirement, insurance, social security and thrift savings plan benefits.

Adding to the online capabilities, employees will be able to verify employment via the Self Service My Biz – Employment Verification tool to securely and conveniently release, via email, employment and /or salary information to an external organization or person. This tool can be accessed via the CPOL website employment verification link at http://cpol.army.mil/library/benefits/2013-EV.html or via the ABC-C website at https://www.ab.army.mil.
