Save on advance carnival tickets

Advance carnival tickets are on sale now for the 2013 Fun Festival, set for Sept. 27-29 at Veterans’ Memorial Park, Sierra Vista. The City of Fun Carnival will be featured, with rides for all ages. Buy in advance and save $3.

Tickets are available at Fort Huachuca’s Murr Community Center and Thunder Mountain Activity Centre, and at Buffalo Wild Wings and Ace Hardware in Sierra Vista for the price of $9 for 10 tickets.

During the carnival, the price will be $12 for 10 tickets.

All-day wristbands are also being sold at all locations for the price of $22 per day. Cost will be $25 during the festival.

September RAN at Murr CC

The September Right Arm Night is set to start at 4 p.m. today at Murr Community Center. In addition to free finger food, games and prize give-aways, enjoy live entertainment from the contestants who are competing in the Preliminary Round of Fort Huachuca’s 2013 Rising Star singing competition.

Right Arm Night is free and open to Soldiers, civilians, retirees and Family members 18 and older.

‘Rising Star’ prelims today

FMWR will present the preliminary round of the 2013 Rising Star Competition today at approximately 5 p.m. during Right Arm Night at Murr Community Center.

The final round of the competition will take place at 5 p.m. Sept. 27 during the Fun Festival at Veterans’ Memorial Park, Sierra Vista.

Everyone is invited to watch contestants compete for cash prizes and the opportunity to sing in the Army-wide competition.

Free entertainment at Fun Fest

The 2013 Fun Festival will offer free, live entertainment all three days. The schedule for Sept. 27 is: 5 p.m., final round of the Rising Star Competition; 7-11 p.m., “The George Howard Band,” a dance party band, will play the best in Motown, Jazz and R & B.

Sept. 28, 7-11 p.m., “Sapphire Sky,” a high-energy band, will play a mix of music, including top 40 dance hits, hip-hop, modern country, classic rock and sing-along anthems.

Sept. 29 is Family Day, and the schedule for that day is: noon-3 p.m., free activities for kids of all ages, including the Barney’s Backyard Barnyard Mobile Petting Zoo; 3-5 p.m., the festival will close with country duo “Partners” performing.

Don’t miss popular Mutt March

A popular Fun Festival event is the 5-kilometer Mutt March at 7:30 a.m. Sept. 28 at Veterans’ Memorial Park, Fry Boulevard, Sierra Vista.

Bring your pet and participate in this fun event. Cost is $10 for pet and human and includes refreshments and a t-shirt. Sponsors and vendors will award prizes for contests in various categories.

Register to win a dirt bike

FMWR and Sierra Cycles want to help put a “toy under the tree” by giving away a 2013 Kawasaki KLX 140 ADF Dirt Bike (Valued at $2,999) Dec. 14 at the N.O.E.L. holiday event.

Authorized MWR patrons over 18 can register for a chance to win the dirt bike at several upcoming events, including: the Fun Fest, Sept. 27-29 at Veterans’ Memorial Park, Sierra Vista; Bikes and Bands, Oct. 5, Hatfield Street, Fort Huachuca; Right Arm Night, Oct. 18 at Thunder Mountain Activity Centre; plus several more events. A “traveling registration” box will move between various MWR facilities. In addition, patrons can also register at Sierra Cycles, Sierra Vista.

MWR Rents adds Saturday hours

MWR Rents has announced new hours of operation. In order to meet the needs of their customers, the facility has added off-duty hours.

Beginning Oct. 1, it will be open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday.

Murr seeks vendors for fall bazaar

The Murr Community Center staff is looking for vendors to display their items at their “fall bazaar” set for 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 12 and 13.

The event will be open to the public, and items such as knit and hand-sewn apparel, candles, fragrances, wood crafts and other items will be available.

Vendors may pick up an application at Murr. The cost is $20 per space. For more information, call 533.2404.

Join friends at TMAC for lunch

The staff of Thunder Mountain Activity Centre invites everyone to join them for their lunch buffet, now served 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays.

Cost of the lunch buffet is $8.95 for adults or $4.50 for children ages 5-11. All buffets include salad bar, desserts, rolls and a non-alcoholic beverage.

Free fitness classes offered

The Sports, Fitness and Aquatics Division offers free ongoing fitness classes, including spinning, Zumba, yoga, aerobics, water fitness classes and more.
