Fun in sun with low cost equipment rental

Kayaks and accessories, such as life jackets and paddles, are available for rent at Fort Huachuca’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation Rents facility. These can be rented for the day, weekend, or week.

As the weather transitions in southern Arizona, people embrace the change by spending more time outdoors. Camping, fall festivals or backyard barbeques may require items that are not usually kept on hand but Fort Huachuca’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation Rents office provides services and equipment that can assist in making these activities possible.

MWR Rents has recreational vehicles, camping and picnic equipment, sports equipment, kayaks and accessories, recreation and party rentals and storage units available. Active duty and retired Soldiers, their Families, Department of Defense civilians, contractors, or anyone who holds a government-issued identification card may rent from MWR Rents or use their services.

If camping is on the agenda, camping and picnic sites are available at Lower Garden Canyon and the Lakeside Pavilion. Three recreational vehicles and two travel trailers are offered for those that do not tent camp. For those who do, tents, sleeping bags, air mattresses, lanterns, grills and more can be rented as well.

Sheryl Aguirre, MWR Rents supervisor, said, “MWR Rents provides a good opportunity for people to try it before they buy it. We have a lot of people that will do that.”

Float tubes and life jackets are available for both adults and children to enjoy a day of kayaking or relaxing on the water. Rent softball sets, volleyballs, badminton sets, horseshoe sets or tug-of-war ropes for a day of sports at the park. Plan a birthday party or unit event complete with folding chairs, a newly purchased dunk tank, child-friendly frame games and jumping castles, providing fun and relaxation for all ages. “The bounce houses are just so convenient and fun. They are the best babysitter that you could ever ask for,” said Aguirre.

Inside a 28 foot recreational vehicle available to rent through Morale, Welfare and Recreation Rents, Fort Huachuca. These vehicles comfortably sleep 7 to 8 people are fully equipped with the needed amenities.

If a deployment is approaching, and a storage unit is needed, Lock & Leave Storage is contracted with MWR, but located at MWR Rents and offers a variety of sizes for household goods while gone. If a larger unit is needed, MWR Rents recently opened a section of 10 feet by 10 feet units. For more information on the sizes or cost of the units, contact 439.5261.

The resale lot, located next to Burger King on Smith Avenue, is available to sell cars, trucks, RVs, motorcycles, boats and other vehicle types. Contact MWR Rents to obtain a space and decal for the vehicle. The cost is $20 per vehicle under 14 feet/30 days or $25 per vehicle over 14 feet/30 days.

Equipment can be rented by day, by weekend or by week. Items that are commonly reserved are bounce houses, recreational vehicles and tables and chairs. MWR Rents recommends calling in advance to ensure that these items are available, especially if a holiday is approaching. Availability is offered at a first-come, first-served basis.

MWR Rents is located at Building 70914, Irwin Street. Business hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday. Prices and sizes for rentals vary, but can be viewed at www.mwrhuachuca.com/mwrrents.html or call 533.6707.
