SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. – The Coronado National Forest, Sierra Vista Ranger District, will celebrate National Public Lands Day and the 40th Anniversary of the Endangered Species Act on Saturday.

Volunteers are needed to assist with an aquatic restoration project taking place at the Carr Barn. The meeting location is approximately six miles south of Buffalo Soldier Trail in Hereford. To reach it turn east from Highway 92 onto Calle Del Tecolote and drive approximately 1/2 mile to the gated area on the road’s south side. Parking is available inside the gated Forest Service area.

Volunteers are advised to bring plenty of water, a lunch, sunscreen, and gloves. Apparel should include long- sleeved shirt, long pants, work shoes or boots, and a hat.

Participants should expect wet and muddy work. During the aquatic restoration project volunteers will be asked to pull weeds, move rocks and roll out pond liners. Tools will be provided.

The purpose of the restoration project is to improve aquatic habitat for threatened and endangered species such as the Chiricahua Leopard frog and other wildlife.
