Students research igloos and Inuits at the General Myer library.

Amy Wolfe’s fifth graders learn research techniques at General Myer Elementary School.

Amy Wolfe’s fifth-grade class conducted library research for Nancy Murphy’s igloo project. Prior to the students building the igloos, they utilized the library to research why Inuit people built igloos. This meets technology, informational text and social studies learning standards. Students will build the igloos out of recycled milk jugs, and Murphy hopes to display the project at the county fair. Donations of milk jugs are being accepted at General Myer Elementary School.

Kim Tomlin’s fifth-grade class finished a unit on the scientific method by creating a presentation on the scientific method. Students created posters, Glogs and PowerPoint presentations. The class will begin studying the Age of Exploration in social studies and human body systems.

General Myer Elementary School will host its annual Fall Festival Oct. 26. The event will feature the Fort Huachuca Fire, Police and K9 departments, air evacuation, jumping houses, obstacle course, 40th Signal Battalion display, Parents as Teachers, Army Community Service, book fair, costume contest, pumpkin carving contest, pie-in-the-face event, a teacher dunk tank and much more.

Wristbands are available for $10 or $13 at the door. Tickets are available 5 for $1 or 4 for $1 at the door. The school is still accepting vendor applications at the front office.
