Sierra Vista marketing campaign gets ‘Savvy’

SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. – The City of Sierra Vista won two prestigious awards for its community outreach marketing campaign, “1&1 Weekly Refuse and Recycling” and Vista 411, a bi-monthly city-wide newsletter. The awards were presented at the annual national conference for City-County Communications and Marketing Association, or 3CMA, in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Sept. 5.

The “1&1 Weekly Refuse and Recycling” campaign won the top award, a Savvy, in the category of Marketing and Tools – Government Service Delivery/Community Issues competing against larger cities with populations up to 150,000. The comprehensive marketing efforts included direct mailers; newspaper, radio, and television advertisements; educational neighborhood meetings; Vista 411 editorials; and City website and social media postings.

The judges commented that the campaign was a “great comprehensive marketing program…it made the message of a new and improved program easy to understand and therefore easy to participate in.”

Vista 411, the City’s bi-monthly newsletter, won the Award of Excellence in the Printed Publication – External Publication for cities populations up 83,000.

“The newsletter is not only cost effective, but done well with an in-house design team,” the judges commented. The judges also loved the balance of color, use of photos, event calendar, and incredible story telling.

“We’re very proud and honored to have received two awards,” said Judy Hector, Sierra Vista marketing and public affairs manager. “Both awards are a testimony to City staff’s dedication to providing up-to-date information and improving dialogue with residents.”

3CMA is a national organization for local governments dedicated to supporting new and better ways of communicating with residents. Its annual awards are presented in 12 categories with 43 subcategories. Entries are judged on innovation, creativity, and strategic alignment with project goals. The Savvy Award is the most prestigious of the awards followed by Silver Circle and Award of Excellence in each subcategory.
