Chalk Talk – October 18, 2103

Colonel Johnston Elementary School

In math, second-grade students have been working on the following objectives: add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies, understand place value with tens and ones, skip count within 100, and read/write numbers to 100 using base ten, number names, and expanded form. Students have also been using the following math programs and websites this quarter: Fact Dash, Skills Tutor, Accelerated Math, www.fun4thbrain.com, and http://aaamath.com/plc.htm.

 

General Myer Elementary School

The Character Counts program at General Myer focuses on ethical values known as the Six Pillars of Character. These are Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship. During the first quarter students are striving to be honest, reliable, loyal, and considerate. Throughout the school, they also displaying acts of kindness and following the Golden Rule of treating people the way they would like to be treated.

During their lessons with the School Counselor, Jan Camps, and Behavior Coach, Sherry Avery, students are reminded of the importance of dealing peacefully with anger as well as being tolerant of differences. Students from each class will be recognized at the November assembly for displaying great character and doing well academically.
