Colonel Johnston Elementary School

The six second grade classes at Colonel Johnston Elementary School will present their Veterans Day Program to friends and families on Wednesday morning for those at school and again at 6 p.m. for their parents. This decade-long tradition honors all the services and active duty or retired parents with a combination of patriotic songs and poetry recitations.

To prepare, the students practiced songs and memorized poems. The Wall of Honor in the main school hallway displays decorated stars honoring the veterans in each Family. Many students have Family members who served in World Wars I or II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan or other conflicts.

The flag ceremony will feature a special appearance from the 40th Expeditionary Signal Brigade Army Color Guard, who will post the colors during the ceremony. After the program, each child will present his or her veteran with a handmade gift. Debbie Bauer, the Johnston School staff offers special thanks to you for directing this performance.

General Myer Elementary School

Lorraine Draeger’s third grade class is studying the ecology of various environments. They made grassland dioramas which are displayed in glass cases by the third-grade wing at Myer Elementary School.

Last week, they went on a field trip to Little Family Farm, and students, parents and teachers who attended all had fun.

Draeger also has the Draeger Bowl going on in class. It corresponds to the students learning their multiplication facts. For instance, if they get their three times table memorized, they can get to the 30-yard line. If they learn all times tables up to the 12s, they make a touchdown.
