Jeannie’s Diner ‘beefs’ up menu, offers holiday party venue, plans special events

The Jeannie’s Diner crew has added new menu items, plans special holiday-related events and offers a holiday party venue to attract new and repeat customers. The quick-service 50s-60s style restaurant located in the Desert Lanes Bowling Center now offers sweet potato fries, soft pretzels, boneless buffalo “wing dings” and a plate called the Meanie Jeannie.

The Meanie Jeannie consists of a quarter pound all-beef hot dog, bacon, jalapeño peppers and cheddar cheese wrapped in a flour tortilla. The tortilla is deep fried, topped with melted cheddar and diced onions and served with fries on the side. The Meanie Jeannie is already a favorite of Staff Sgt. Michael Tamargo, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 40th Expeditionary Signal Battalion.

“I come back because of [the Meanie Jeannie]. This was on the special one week and then they put it on the menu,” Tamargo said.

According to Sandra Perry, Jeannie’s Diner business manager, the menu item was named after the former business manager Jeannie and not the diner. She explained it was Jeannie who came up with the idea for the new deep fried favorite.

Perry said that although the Meanie Jeannie is highly requested among the new menu items, Jeannie’s Diner burgers remain the most popular menu items among the Soldiers. Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Glen McFarland, deputy garrison chaplain, agreed with Perry, endorsing the bacon cheeseburger with a side of onion rings he orders on a regular basis.

While the diner is normally crowded at lunch time, Jeannie’s serves breakfast as well on Monday – Friday, 6:30 – 10:30 a.m. Breakfast menu items including pancakes, French toast, breakfast burritos and omelets. A children’s menu is available for both breakfast and lunch.

Book holiday parties now

Jeannie’s Diner is gearing up for the holiday season. Those interested in hosting a holiday party can book the retro-style venue for their upcoming gathering. Patrons have the option to choose from platters of finger foods to a full buffet which includes main menu offerings of chicken, shredded barbecue beef brisket, meat loaf or lasagna.

Perry said in addition to food from Jeanie’s, Desert Lanes is also available for parties.

“It gives people a chance to do more than sit there,” she said. “We’ll serve the food; they can book the bowling alley.”

Special events planned as well

Aside from booking private parties, Jeannie’s Diner will co-host special holiday events with Desert Lanes. Through Nov. 24, diner and bowling alley patrons can enter a turkey The drawing will be held Nov. 25.

Nov. 15 – Dec. 12, active duty service members can enter to win one of two stockings stuffed with prizes. The drawing will take place Dec. 13, and entrants must be present to win. Jeannie’s Diner and Desert Lanes will also hold their annual New Year’s Eve bowling party Dec. 31, 8 p.m. – 12:30 a.m.
