SFA schedules 5K Thanksgiving Day

Sports, Fitness and Aquatics will present the Turkey Trot 5K non-competitive run/walk starting at 8 a.m. Thursday at Lakeside Park.

The event is open to all authorized FMWR patrons and is free to all. Strollers and leashed animals are permitted.

Participation forms must be completed, either at Barnes Field House or the morning of the event at Lakeside Park.

BOSS plans Tucson tasting trips

Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers, or BOSS, has scheduled a “Taste of Tucson” trip for Dec. 7. The trip is open to 12 Fort Huachuca single Soldiers and will feature food tours of Tucson that include at least six different food-tasting stops.

Cost is $40 per person. A van will leave Murr Community Center at 9:30 a.m., with the tours starting at 11 a.m.

Free Christmas trees available

The Christmas SPIRIT Foundation, the FedEx Corp and Army Community Service will present free Christmas Trees for Troops® Dec. 6 and 7 at the Thunder Mountain Activity Centre parking lot.

The trees are donated by more than 800 Christmas tree growers from across the United States. They will be available free of charge to military Families with ID card.

Dec. 6, from 7 a.m. – 3 p.m., active duty E5 and below may pick up trees. Then from 3 – 7 p.m., Dec. 6, all military Families may pick up trees.

If trees remain, they will be available for pickup Dec. 7 from 8 – 10 a.m. for all ranks.

Register to win a dirt bike

FMWR and Sierra Cycles want to help put a “toy under the tree” by giving away a 2013 Kawasaki KLX 140 ADF dirt bike, valued at $2,999, Dec. 14 at the NOEL holiday event.

Authorized MWR patrons over 18 years will have the opportunity to register for a chance to win the dirt bike at several upcoming events, and a “traveling registration” box which will move between various MWR facilities. In addition, patrons can also register at Sierra Cycles, Sierra Vista.

NOEL event scheduled for Dec. 13, 14

FMWR will present “NOEL” — Night of Extraordinary Lights — Dec. 13 and 14, 4 – 10 p.m. at Mountain View Golf Course. This free event is open to everyone.

Activities include: hay rides to view light displays; ice skating rink (skates provided); photos with Santa; holiday movies; letters to the North Pole and more.

Food and drinks will be available to purchase and craft vendors will be on hand for holiday shopping.

Professional photos with Santa offered

The Arts & Crafts Center invites everyone to take part in a photo session with Santa Claus and professional photographers Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Murr Community Center.

Cost is $15 per photo per pose for a 20-minute photo session with Santa and his elves.

The non-refundable $15 is due at time of registration. No personal camera or cell phone photos will be allowed.

Murr changes hours

Murr Community Center has new operation hours: Monday – Thursday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Friday, 7 a.m. – 9 p.m.; Saturday, noon – 9 p.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. The Murr Ticket Office is open Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Youth basketball registration open

Child, Youth and School Services Youth Sports and Fitness Program personnel are holding registration for basketball for youth 5-15 through Saturday at Parent Central Services, Building 52111.

Cost is $55 per player. A copy of a birth certificate and a valid physical current from the time of actual registration through the end of April, 2013 are required.

CYSS is also holding registration for cheerleading for youth 5-10 through Dec. 16 at Parent Central Services.

MWR Rents adds Saturday hours

MWR Rents has announced new hours of operation. In order to accommodate the needs of their customers, the facility has added off-duty hours.

They are now open Monday – Friday, from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
